Hamilton extends his contract for two more years:

Now the question of what happens to the second seat...

Anyone else finding the “we’re not calling it a race” tedious?

I missed the build up and probably a lot of that discussion but yes it was odd hearing people trip over what to call it during and after. Still not really sure what I think of the format yet, depends how much it's given away of the relative pace of the cars.

Not sure what this 'sprint' format is supposed to achieve. It sounds like another qualification with a few points given.

Th only reason that I can think of is of they felt that the single flying lap qualification for the grid of the main race could be unfair for some eg if a back marker accidentally got in the way etc.

It does give the opportunity to mix a few places up for Sunday.

But also a chance for the faster cars who were out of place in Friday's quali to gain places back, aka Max.

The main benefit is that teams get an open choice of starting tyres for both Saturday and Sunday.

I kind of liked it, as you get action on all three days, but the jury is still out.

That used be the rule for the whole weekend once upon a time. Made it more interesting IMO.

I somehow feel that this Sprint thing is not here to stay. Let's see.

Restart in 10 mins, yes think it will be a grid restart based on what they've been doing recently.

Lando could be doing Lewis a favour here, if he keeps Bottas behind him I think Lewis could keep 2nd

That said Merc could just give him “the call” to get out of the way

Both I think

Max very punchy previously and moving on the straight which would likely have influenced Lewis.

Racing incident to me - but I'm not an ex-F1 driver or steward.

Quite a lot of negative comments on social media about this, Horner is starting to be known as a bit of a whiner. I'm sure they are only supposed to be able to do this with significant evidence that was not available at the time of the incident. I can't see how they have anything significant, maybe they found a letter from Hamilton written before the race saying I'm going to take Max out at copse!

Part of me wants there to be some push back from the stewards and to reduce Hamiltons penalty to 5 seconds, won't make a difference to the result but might send a message to Horner to stop being a baby.

Well that was a thoroughly bizarre race, and the only thing weirder than that restart would have been if Hamilton had pitted as well! (And interesting to wonder what exactly would have triggered the pit lane to open given there would be no "last car" going past the pit exit...)

Such a pity that all the other front runners were eliminated as that could have been an amazing race at the front with those still in, but a very eventful race regardless. Apparently there are some investigations still going on regarding post-race fuel samples (there needs to be 1 litre available) so things could still change yet.
