AV Amps no longer being made, or just chip shortage?

Post by AndyWilson »

My existing budget Sony AV amp has developed an annoying but liveable fault that will cost more than it's worth to fix.

So I started looking for a new amp but there are very few if any sub-£500 amps available.

All I want is:

5.1 Surround - DD & DTS is all I need.
HDMI ARC
4 HDMI sockets with 4K HDCP passthrough
Phono or Line input for turntable (with built in switchable phono amp)
Banana plug connections for all speakers
Powered Subwoofer out.

Is there actually anything out there or am I going to end up having to get a soundbar?

I think you can find a Pioneer VSX 934 for around £500 if you shop around. I have the 933 and am very happy with it.

An even better bargain would be the now discontinued Yamaha RX V685. which Richer Sounds have for £400. It came out in 2018 and I have installed that in my Indian apartment with Musicast surround sound speakers. Also very good.
