BTTF 3 R2 Replacement disc Dull picture look problem *Update new disc 3 has arrived*

I have compared my replacement copy with the one i have and the replacement has a dull picture look for the first 1hr 8mins and after the layer change it is ok. If someone could check theirs and compare you will notice this too. Look at the scene were doc is checking over the car outside in the 50 style cinema area there is no sunshine on the car etc and also when he shoots down marty from the rope it is dull and less of a golden vibrant colour with the disc you already have. I will be contacting Universal and let you know

yeah i noticed that too, being a a took a few screenshots to see if I could spot a difference between the framing. Took them at 32:17 and while there was a slight framing difference (a guy at the far right was now visible.) the screen was obviously duller. I've got no webspace to host them on, but if someone wants to do it I can email them out. This would be ridiculous if its another fault!

Actually now it's been mentioned I had noticed this but it wasn't registering at the time.

So...anyone predicting when we might see this third issue of BTTF Part III? I say around April 2004.

I'm selling my DVD player and entire collection.

Only just got my replacements as well.

If it's a choice between a few minutes misframed or a noticably poorer picture I'll take the misframed version.

Lucky I kept the original discs.

Reg 4 is the same.

Here's some screen grabs so you can see the stark differences...

Old Part 3 @ 00:32:17

New Part 3 @ 00:32:17

Old Part 3 @ start of chapter 7

New Part 3 @ start of chapter 7

Part 2 seems to be fine ....

Maybe the original transfer was falsely over colourful and they thought they'd tone it down?

Can someone who has the Reg 1 please check theirs too?

either way an explanation needs to be given. Of the two I reckon the brighter one is right.

When I checked part 2 the brightness levels seem fine.

I think you're right.

All of us who have received replacement disks need to take the time to write to Universal Australia or UK and express our utter disgust at this and demand new replacements are mastered yet again

R4 as well What i think happend is that the first layer(1hr 8mins) was with all the widescreen issues and they adjust that and for some reason the picture colour/contrast and the second layer about 40mins was uneffected so they didn't bother on the last 40mins. So we get dull picture for 1 hr 8mins and after the picture bright and fine

It's the contrast and the colour that are both out of whack. Look at the top two frames taken from 32:17. The new one seems to have more edge enhancement and more compression as well (the sky in the top left is very blocky on the second one, but not so on the original transfer). Of course, it could just be the duller colours and contrast are showing this up more - it's hard to say.

I'd really love to know if the Reg 1 is affected as well or not. If it isn't, I think I will just buy that instead as I'm bloody sick of Universal's total incompetence

OK, I now have it on good authority that the Region 1 re-mastered versions are good (same colour and contrast as the misframed originals).

I am off to compose a nasty letter to Universal Australia, which I will also send to Universal UK. I don't hold out much hope, but at least it will calm me down a bit

Here are the versions of Squirrel God's screenshots from the (V2) Region 1 version:

I'd say they look exactly right - kinda striking a balance between the bright and the dull versions.
