Your Favourite Albums 2010-2019

No point in doing any kind of poll given our numbers, so just have a think and post your favourites.

I'll have a good think but have these two for starters.

Low - Double Negative
Public Service Broadcasting - The Race For Space

I’m impressed that I was able to narrow it down to include only 2 King Creosote albums. I’ve definitely mellowed dramatically this decade, Bodega is probably the most raucous band and there’s an awful lot of alt folk and modern classical at the expense of noisy indie and metal.

Alphabetical order rather than ranked as I’d probably struggle for hours for no real purpose but, if you were to pick just one to listen to then I’d recommend King Creosote’s Diamond Mine.

Allo Darlin - Europe
Bodega - Endless Scroll
Cowboy Junkies - All That Reckoning
Erland Cooper - Sule Skerry
Four Tet - Morning/Evening
James Yorkston - The Cellardyke Recording and Wassailing Society
Johann Johannsson - Orphee
Jon Hopkins - Immunity
Julianna Barwick - Nepenthe
King Creosote & Jon Hopkins - Diamond Mine
King Creosote & Michael Johnston - The Bound of the Red Deer
Mairearad Green - Summer Isles
Manics - Postcards from a Young Man
Max Richter - From Sleep
Olafur Arnalds -Island Songs
Pictish Trail - Future Echoes
Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
Sacred Paws - Strike a Match
Taylor Swift - 1989
These New Puritans - Field of Reeds

That list is so laid back there is a very real danger you'll start putting leather patches on the elbows of your tweed jacket.

This is surprisingly difficult! While I listen to a lot of music, it's becoming more and more rare for me to find an entire album that I can say I really enjoyed. Once I find an artist I click with, I tend to find myself loving most of their output.

Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross - The Social Network (2010)
Foster the People - Torches (2011)
Norah Jones - Little Broken Hearts (2012)
David Bowie - The Next Day (2013)
Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks (2013)
Arctic Monkeys - AM (2013)
Chvrches - The Bones of What You Believe (2013)
Royal Blood - Royal Blood (2014)
First Aid Kit - Stay Gold (2014)
Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams (2014)
David Bowie - Blackstar (2016)
Nine Inch Nails - Add Violence (2017)
A Perfect Circle - Eat the Elephant (2018)
First Aid Kit - Ruins (2018)
Danger Mouse/Karen O - Lux Prima (2019)
Norah Jones - Begin Again (2019)
Jenny Lewis - On the Line (2019)
Bat for Lashes - Lost Girls (2019)

Bowie Blackstar must be album of the 21st century. A perfect final statement from the great man.

Funnily enough, I was in the process of compiling a list when this came up (because that's the kind of thing I like to do anyway!).

I think there's been a massive change in the way I listen to music this decade - the online streaming services (Spotify in my case) give you such access to a wide range of albums that you wonder (1) Is there something else I'm missing out on? and (2) Did I really give that album enough time?

I still buy a few albums every year though. Here's my shortlist:-

So Runs The World Away - Josh Ritter (2010)
Destroyer Of The Void - Blitzen Trapper (2010)
Songs From The Stoop - The Brothers Comatose (2010)
Mockingbird Time - The Jayhawks (2011)
Wrecking Ball - Bruce Springsteen (2012)
Clockwork Angels - Rush (2012)
The Shovel vs The Howling Bones - Lincoln Durham (2012)
Death Letter Jubilee - The Delta Saints (2013)
Morning Phase - Beck (2014)
Lost In The Dream - The War On Drugs (2014)
Hypnotic Eye - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (2014)
Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams (2014)
Sonic Highways - Foo Fighters (2014)
Great Western Valkyrie - Rival Sons (2014)
B'lieve I'm Goin Down - Kurt Vile (2015)
Sermon On The Rocks - Josh Ritter (2015)
American Man - The Yawpers (2015)
Punchbuzz - Husky (2017)
The Thread That Keeps Us - Calexico (2018)
Year of the Tiger - Myles Kennedy (2018)
Mountain - The Cold Stares (2018)
The Unseen Inbetween - Steve Gunn (2019)
Feral Roots - Rival Sons (2019)
