Arrow Doctor Sleep - Ewan McGregor / Dir. Mike Flanagan ("The Shining" Sequel)

I listened to the audio books of The Shining and Doctor Sleep earlier this year and I'm looking forward to the new film.

It was very different to The Shining but it looks like they've done a good job with the teaser trailer.

With Mike Flanagan directing (The Haunting of Hill House, Gerald's Game) I feel like it is in good hands.

So what is it a sequel to ?
Is it a sequel to the shining movie or the shining book ?

I never got round to reading the book of doctor sleep and think the Kubrick movie far superior to the book which (whisper it) I found a bit of a slog

From reading it seems they are trying to please both fans and be all things to everyone. Good be just a jack of all trades and master of none

Based on the trailer they seem to be making it a sequel to the Kubrick film with clear references but the book is a sequel to the original book.

I didn't really see how it would be a problem being a sequel to either the original film or book. I didn't think there was that much difference between the The Shining book and the Kubrick film. Not enough to make Doctor Sleep not work as a sequel to either.

The only bit they might need to explain is:
