Yeah, I did think that. Still, any improvement over last years semi will be welcome. Think we are now harder to beat so might not throw away a two goal lead this time!

Hopefully this thread will reflect a very different 2nd part to our season. Certainly feeling more upbeat than I was a few weeks back!

Our appeal over Zokora's red card from Tuesday night has been rejected. What a surprise... so he's now banned for 3 games and we have even fewer defenders (or those capable of playing there). I assume that means he's out of the Arse game on Saturday?

Jesus.

Chimbonda at CB anyone?

You're.

Not your.

Anyways, we've got Slavia Prague in the UEFA Cup draw - very happy with that as it could've been far worse. Would draw PSV in the following round, assuming they beat Helsingborgs. Tougher but it's a tough competition this year.

As a Bluebird, I am gutted that you are getting one of our shining stars.

A pacey and intelligent player that will only go from strength to strength...

A steal at 4 million...

Who's next Risdale! Joe Ledley or Aaron Ramsey...

He's ok in a very poor City side

I dont believe it!!!

When I saw the team sheet, I thought we'd get a tonking today, but we deserved at least a draw, it was a very even game for a change. It is criminal to miss penalties like that!!!

Aaaargh!

Much better performance overall but some good and some poor goalkeeping.

Terrible miss for the pen but Almunia looked like if Robbies run up had been a bit slower he may have met him on the penalty spot.

Usual "excellent" level of officiating.

Definitely should have had a second penalty and Lennon being ruled offside was annoying especially when he was onside but as of late, we get nowt out of a game against a top four side.

Provided we can keep the same effort level and stifle the opposition against other teams, we should be ok for the rest of the season, with a few players to return.

The second incident should have been a penalty too, I agree. We really did deserve a draw, and weren't outclassed for a change.

Tarrabt always fascinates me. He seems in a world, and a game of his own, but has some outstanding ability. If he can incorporate that into the team he is a great prospect, but he just seems to want to play on his own.

Havent really seen enough of Taraabt to make up my mind, as you said, he does seem to have some skill and a bit of speed.

I suspect with the season "gone" already, Ramos will take the chance to see plenty of his squads potential:O'hara looked very good today, save for one slip that could have been costly. He looked very calm and interested in the game, unlike a certain forward who's hair kept getting in his way.

Berbatov did seem to be back in stroppy mode today, after some better performances. It seems to be that his head goes down too easily when things are not going for him.

I hope the season isn't over. We should be looking to qualify for the UEFA cup through league position, which is our natural position I think.

The League Cup Final is a possibility this time round I think, and hopefully good runs in the other cups too.

If we qualify via the league it will be a significant achievement from this position - almost a miracle.

Berbatov is frustrating to watch, I must confess that I don't really like him in the team as his petulance and self obsession is sickening. A good performance today considering the scratch team that we fielded. Keane missed 2 golden opportunities but that's just typical of our luck - see also the clear penalty that we didn't get awarded.

In reality though, Arsenal remain a far better team than Spurs. The stats don't lie

Sigh... you start to wonder how over the course of the last 80 games against the top 4, things so rarely seem to go our way.

Penalties missed, last minute winners/equalisers, balls crossing the goal line by 3 feet and not being given.... that sort of thing

I stopped caring about games against the top 4 years ago, now I just laugh.

Think if we had scored the penalty we would have at least got a draw. Before the game I was strangely dreading it but our performance with a makeshift back four was excellent. O'Hara looked very good and worked hard. Boateng looks like the central midfield battler we need and thought Malbranque worked hard too. Berbatov needs to work harder and try to stretch the back line by going for goal rather than dropping off and trying little flicks that dont always come off. He is frustrating as he shows how much talent he has but seems content to just accept when its not going our way rather than fight to change it. Our new coach doesnt seem like one to tolerate slackers so there may be developments.
Think Defoe will definitely be on his way in the transfer window and I for one am sad about that as he will score a lot of goals when he plays regularly
