Missed the Martin Mere meet but great to see all pics. Thought it might be interesting to have a thread just for wildlife. Not posted a pic before so hope this young cormorant shows up, taken at our local pond in S. Devon a few weeks ago. If pic displays ok I'll sort out a few more.

Sam, superb one of the moorhen, never seen their courting rituals before. The lighting on the stag sets it off just right.

Thanks Tmurphy, they're all Nikon. The cormorant is the Coolpix 8800, the goldcrest a D100 which I've now sold and the Jay on my new baby, the D2X. The SLRs used with the VR 70-200 f2.8. The field mouse here, which has pushed everything beyond the limit really, includes a TC 1.7. Shooting into shadow and heavily cropped so pretty grainy, and focus could be sharper.

John you've got some great shots there

CT.. I'm begining to suspect you like birds ( may have been you mentioning RSPB last week) I have a soft spot for raptors. where was this taken and have you seen the red kites in york area. Ive only seen them a couple of times on my travels but always soaring way to high for me to snap.

Sam.. superb shot I have never seen them displaying like that

I've been very impressed by all 3 of our images today Goaty. You're really getting the hang of that D70 now. The grey in you canal shot looks like elephant hide, it really does.

Well done with those moorhens Sam - nice action shot. David Attenborough eat your heart out.

I'm an angler so I don't like cormorants John but I do like the goldcrest - was it really that way up ?

I see lots of fluffy chicks like that on the river bank Grey Jackal - they are brainless and don't keep still for long - and most of them seem to die. Too cute.

The red kite was at a bird of prey centre (on the way to Skipton I think). It was free flying and basically flew away. I left the centre to follow it and found it in a tree. It wasn't there for long but I got a few shots off.

Yes John I do like birds. I pass a huge buzzard on the way to work everyday but its perch is too high. Even if I got close to it I would still be left with an arse shot.

I'm creating jpeg contact strips from previously scanned slides as we speak so if I come across anymore birds, I'll post them

John I love that Goldcrest is that a native bird to the UK? I think I have some magpies building a nest in my garden and although they are hated by many people I have to say they're quite a magnificent looking creature with good contrast and the iridescent feathers. I'll have to try fro some pics of them but I've only seen them in the tree once or twice I can just see the nets that they have which is a massive mess.

By the way crouching tiger I ment to ask you at the MMMM where do you live.

The falconry centre is the North Yorkshire Falconry Centre in Giggleswick and I know it well.
I wonder if I should surgest a mini forums meet there and then on to historic skipton
