Cheaper Canon EF lenses at 7 day shop

reduced prices on canon lenses

Some prices cut from their already cheaper than average prices - e.g. the marvellous 70-200 f/4 L is now £30 cheaper at £400 (I bought one two weeks ago from them at the higher price so I'm slightly miffed)

Does anybody know what the difference in quality is like between this 'L' series lens and the cheaper 70-300 USM lens (thats what I currently have)? I guess the 70-200 L with TC will be the best option.

Plus, whats the score on VAT charges from 7 dayshop?

The 'L stands for Luxury. Better lens. Better glass, bigger aperature, oh and more expensive. They're great lenses if you can afford them.

No worry over VAT

I have not used the lens you use at the mo but many voices on forums such as dpreview had concerns over the quality of the lower price canon lenses. I was able to have a sneeky play with the 70-200 in aa local Jessops and it seemed to be a pretty good bet + I had a surplus on my credit card (paid the wrong bill and ended up £350 in credit) so I thought I'd treat myself to the lens. If you're happy with your current lens then why change? If you find that you get any of soft edges, poor autofocus, not enough stops, poor colour reproduction then it might be the lens for you

Thanks, seen some positive comments over at dpreview forum too. As both my wife and I have 300D's I can give her the 70-300 USM

Yes, have noticed at the top end the 70-300 to be very soft and autofocus seems to be off most of the time.

The 70-200mm L f4 lens has a great reputation for being an excellent value L grade lens, its the next lens on my shopping list.
7dayshop's price on this lens makes it nearly the same price as a Hong Kong sourced (inc. delivery) or US sourced (B&H Photo not inc. delivery).
An excellent price, Warehouse Express sell this lens for £490!!
