Spoiler-Free For Episode III

Ok, first things first. I'm a massive Star Wars fan. I'm not a complete nutter, I don't collect the figures, dress up in costume or live in a flat in Hinckley completely decked out like Obi-Wan Kenobi's house but I enjoyed both prequels. On the other hand, a few years ago my friends bought me a life size cardboard cut-out of Darth Vader for my birthday. Get the picture?

Anyway, to the point. The day after I saw Attack Of The Clones, I decided to go spoiler-free for Episode 3. The only thing I'm allowing myself to know is the title so I can avoid it and can at least buy tickets when the time comes. Since then I've not looked at any websites, magazines or forum threads about Star Wars at all. It's just about two years now and it hasn't been too bad. I've only been spoiled twice so far:

Now comes the home stretch. One year to go and it's not going to be long until you can't move for Ep 3 publicity. I won't be able to go to the cinema in case I see a poster or worse still a trailer, I won't be buying any movie magazines, this site is going to be a no no for sure and what I'm going to do about that Ep 3 preview on the original trilogy DVD set I don't know. Even the TV is going to be dangerous this time next year.

So anyone else going this overboard for Ep 3?

Don't bother answering though because I can't take the risk of looking at this thread again in case some numb-nuts posts some deliberate spoilers. So I'll just pretend I'm not the only nutjob on the boards and go about my business. Move along.

I did something similar when Jedi came out, but I was twelve, and something of a dweeb, so had a valid excuse. The ewoks are twice as bad when you're not expecting them.

I'm 99% spoiler free. I feel so clean.

All I know is that
turns up at one point, and that
- but I don't think watching the Clone Wars counts as a spoiler.

That sounds rather cool actually

Minimalist or what?

P.S. I'll admit to having a large collection of Star Wars figures... but then I did get them when I was a kid and they're all well used, none of this 'keep them in the packet' lark ... oh and they're much better than the modern ones

An interesting point in all those spoilers - do you consider watching the Clone Wars cartoon as part of being "spoiled" especially because it...

I'll be doing the same too. For TPM watched/studied the trailers too many times, and made the mistake of reading the track listing for the soundtrack to discover that
TPM spoiler

For AOTC I was weak and watched the trailers far to many times (again) found out that
AOTC spoiler
. I would like to see this last film and not experience the realisation that some plot detail I know about has yet to reviled half way through the film.

Well this is part of why I'm doing it. Anticipation has been so high, especially for TPM, that I'm not sure any fan could have watched the new movies without having their expectations dashed. I had preconceived ideas about what the first two prequels were going to be like before watching them and as a result was only partially satisfied.

And this is not just about obsessive fans either. Lucasfilm may have a reputation for plot secrecy but they pushed out a huge amount of info on TPM and AOTC before they were released. With all the photos and videos on the official site and four (!!) trailers last time, I think I must have seen at least a third of AOTC before setting foot in the cinema. Whats more, a lot of this information is patently false and just designed to set expectations soaring to hype the movie. Watching the web documentaries released in the run up to the release of AOTC it is startling how many lies Rick McAllum comes out with. When he's not worshipping at the Lucas altar that is.

In short, I'm hoping I'll enjoy the Ep 3 on its own terms without being distracted by the usual furore.
