Question Sony DAV-S800 Error Code C-81

Hi,

I am new to this forum, and there looks like there is alot of good info/people here.

I have tried searching the forum for error codes, but with no help to my problem.

I have a Sony DAV-S800 Home Cinema System, that is 18 months old (out of warranty). When I turned the system on at the weekend, the DVD is not working, and is showing the error code C-81. I am unable to eject the tray either

The tuner and auxiliary inputs all work fine, just the DVD. When the TV is turned to the DVD I just get a number of flickers, as if something is trying to happen, then it stops and the error code is displayed.

Is there anyone in here with a list of Sony Error codes who can tell me what the problem is? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Andy:confused:

seems a common ish fault

reading that it appears that the mechanism is knackered - in which case I'd return it as that isn't good enough for that kit, regardless of the warranty situation.

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I agree with you that if it is a mechanism failure, it's not good enough.

I purchased the player from Techtronics multi region, has any one had many dealings with them?? i.e is it worth approaching them and asking the question??

Well - though i better let you know the outcome of my fault.

I ended up taking the player into a local Authorised sony repair centre on Tuesday where they charged me £9.40 to diganose the fault.

I have just had a phonecall from them and ...............wait for it............... The DVD PCB has gone and the repair charge is £423.40 .

Obvioustly i'm not going ahead with it, but suffice to say I am extremely ********d of having payed £700 for less than 2 years service.

Now i'm off to drown my sorrows

Jeez, that's a bum deal.

I'd write to watchdog or some other public consumer show. If units are failing as commonly as this and the cost is so high for repair, there's got to be some sort of backlash ... if only people were organised enough to complain together.

Just stick it on ebay or something with all it's faults listed, you'll probably get some interest from electronics experts
