I don’t understand why they reintroduced the celebrity section. I wonder if it was something they came up with late on to deal with the lack of segments/longer trips because of Hammond and clarkson being out of commission.

It was the one section of the show that got the most complaints back in the tg days. And it was only in there for promoting overseas with the bbc. But they have mostly nobody’s now. It’s so ******* boring.

This series is infinitely more annoying than the first. With the first they were trying to find their feet and working **** out. Now they seem to have just ignored the feedback and gone back to what’s easy/comfortable.

I hurt my back so was laid up for a bit today and decided to watch the latest episode. It’s the worst one yet. The only interesting bit was the sand rail Hammond was in for 2 minutes at the start.

They seem to have moved away from just having them cock about somewhere completely now. It’s actually turned into a very mundane car show.

This episode must have been their most expensive yet but it was ridiculously dull.

Celebrity bit was 13 minutes long (I timed it as I skipped through)

They need to drop the celeb bit asap. Interesting that they dropped things from the previous series due to feedback so hopefully they'll listen again.

I liked the episode overall but I'd have spent more time on Hammond's film at the start, and less on the celebrity bit and the behind the scenes bit for the farm thing. It was funny picking it apart for a time, but that bit went on too long.

I must admit the last couple of weeks (though not this week because Bill Bailey was on) I'd found myself saying "skip 12 minutes" into the voice remote right as the celebrity bit started. In the Top Gear days I usually only watched the celebrity bit if I really thought they'd be an interesting guest, otherwise it was the FF button.

I get the impression there will be some bigger features and a road trip later in the series.

Hopefully in these days of fancy technology Amazon is taking notice of all of us skipping the celeb bits.

The celeb bit serves a purpose though doesn't it? As my Mum would call it, cheap telly. They want an hour out of them, 15 minutes of it is them talking to celebs when they run on the track outside in a car, another ten minutes of them talking to each other. You've cut the cost of the show in half. I'd guess there is only half an hour of expensive filming in each episode.

Just make it 45 mins long, they don't need to keep to a schedule.

But why? Amazon is not selling the show for broadcast to anyone. It’s not like peaky blinders on Netflix (here in the US peaky is on Netflix as an exclusive show).

The thing is conversation Street is their new version of the news but it’s way worse. The news was sometimes funny and interesting (May’s Dacia bit), conversation Street is mostly filler nonsense.

I suppose the deal was for an hour show, like a lot of their stuff is. They could make the shows half an hour but I suppose Amazon want so many hours of content for their money.

Sounds daft, but maybe the celebs bring in a few extra viewers?

But again, how? I don’t what the advertising is like in the UK but here they don’t advertise the celebrities.

They sold it to Channel 7 in Australia, they showed the first series here in October, presumably to promote the new (to Australia) Amazon Prime video feed. Australia only went from Amazon.com.au being just Kindle books to selling more stuff last month.

Thanks for the info. Didn’t know it was on anywhere else.

It's probably an exception rather than standard practice. Now that they have Amazon Prime video I doubt they'll sell series 2

I felt the same. the Hammond dune buggy bit just ended in an odd way and then he spent twice as long talking about the tank. I didn't mind the celebrity bit too much and for me this was the better episodes of the series so far, but the Clarkson/hoonigan film was painfully repetitive and twice as long as it needed to be.

For me, the Jags were the best episode yet.

Some genuinely funny moments and fun with the cars.

Celeb bit..... still pointless.

I've tried to watch each episode of the new series and this and the first one are the only ones where I've not fast forwarded most of it.

Yup. Timed it at 13 minutes this time around and I just skipped the whole thing.

I'm finding it all rather poor this series.

I don't think anyone was saying anything different about the last two series of Top Gear they did. No ideas, lame humour, boring celeb bits, they've just carried on where they left off and the Amazon money has given no fresh impetus, just maybe the cars are in fancier locations, not even sure if that is true.

Another vote for the Jag bits. A really enjoyable, fun section I thought.
