Quite good, a bit of silliness back! Would agree with the show being a bit long and the segment dragging. They don't really seem to have added anything extra in the 20 min celeb portion, just dragged out the other bits a little.

Review from The Guardian here: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...n-era-top-gear

I know they won't be TG/GT's biggest fans but I find myself starting to agree. Particularly with this bit:

Quote:
Only, four episodes in, it doesn’t feel like an exciting new start. It feels stale. Forced. Baggy. Tired. And this is because, as well as transplanting the presenting team (plus executive producer Andy Wilman) across from Top Gear, it has also carried across the baggage that made latter-day Top Gear fall flat. Worse, with the pool of cash Amazon provides, it’s cranked up these irksome indulgences to the point where bolts are popping out. The kernel of what made Top Gear a phenomenon – three men bickering, driving around and being rubbish – is almost entirely absent.
and

Quote:
That’s when it began to dawn: oh dear. They’ve got too much money. The quality control’s gone. No one at Amazon is saying “yes, but will it be entertaining?”

It needs to be more car reviews, racing and dare I say it, a bit more serious and actually about cars. I'm tired of the pointless challenges etc.

Nothing wrong with a fun challenge, the USA roadtrip for example or something genuinely interesting or entertaining. But the old top gear seemed to get that "focus group" mentality towards the end, people like the silly challenges so let's have more of them.

I've really not seen them do much with the massive budget as yet.

Would you not think setting up those celebrity stunts costs a fortune, they have closed a bridge, and probably some of a river. all of that must be very expensive.

I thought it was the best episode so far, I was crying with laughter in places and felt it was the most unrehurst episode yet.

The Guardian makes me laugh, what did they expect this is Top Gear but with all the bits we wanted them to remove and people still complain. Fifth gear is an example of a serious car show, its just boring, who wants to see a review of the new Dacia?

Personally I thought the eco car bit at least was painfully rehearsed. e.g. May putting on American football gear because inexplicably he hasn't actually cemented the bricks. Oh, I wonder what's about to happen...

My 65" OLED arrived at the weekend and I played the first 10 mins of the first episode to check out the 4k/HDR

Looked incredible. Can't wait to delve in to the series now, though I'm not sure a flashy TV will be enough to get my other half in to it!

One thing, and I haven't checked back yet, but when Clarkson spoke of the three 'normal' cars for the eco-challenge race, he said they were driven by local hoodlums and you had a quick close up of (only) two of them.

To me, one of them looked a bit like Matt Le Blanc.

while it's the same as TG - the challenges so far have just been dumb. The army one was completely pointless and went on too long. The Italian one was ruined by the "comedy" of hammond is his yank tank. The eco one was again just dumb. May was always the one who would be the most resourceful but this one was a joke too far.

I'm all for them having challenges but at least make them ******* interesting. Like having to get to their destination from the previous location with only $1k or something. I don't know use the fact that it's a "tour" as part of the MO of the show.

I will watch as they are an enjoyable bunch to watch for the most part but they need to tighten it up a bit.

Although I read today that TGT is the most downloaded (ilegally) show of 2016.

Probably because (at the moment) it was the least widely available, being launched in only a few countries. That is/has changed now.

This show is getting progressively worse. Episode 5 was dreadful and I've never been so bored watching a 'Top Gear' programme

That nonsense with the weigh bridge, WTF was the point of it? Said it before, with the celeb bit gone this programme is 10 minutes to long. Otherwise diverting I suppose but hardly a classic, bit of a filler episode really. I fear whatever magic TG used to have is gone. They need to do some road trips, those were generally high points.

I took an episode round my mates to see on his 50" 4k TV and it did indeed look very good. Only LED though.

And coincidentally another mate of mine has just bought an LG 65" OLED for nearly three grand and it is an incredible looking set. We watched a 4k Bluray and it was amazing how vivid it was.

Watched the Holland episode last night and it was great fun, though none of the Rotterdam people got Clarkson's "Just let me pass the Dutchie on the left hand side." quip.

I quite liked the 5th episode (Holland) as well, though may be biased as I have an MX-5. Seemed more on a par with old Top Gear.

I noticed that, think he felt a bit embarrassed while saying it too.

Didn’t like the canned laugher in the Holland ep.
