Two episodes in and i am not finding it a chore to watch like some recent TV shows. The kid actors in this are far better than those in the movie reboot and are quite believable.

The fact that they changed Dr Smith to a woman I have no issue with and may allow for some subplots with Mr & Mrs Robinson the original Dr Smith was quite a creepy old man.

The choice of actress playing Dr Smith I really have a problem Parker Posey is all they could get for such an important part someone who has to be devious and manipulative and intelligent. She spends most of episode two with the
facial expression of someone who can smell a really pongy fart. Its the same expression she had in Blade Trinity and she was crap in that too.

Agree with that (she was playing a cock juggling thunder ****)

She was pretty awful in Superman returns (but the film was awful anyway)
Selma Blair would of been better in the role for LiS imo as she is much better actress.

Second episode had quite a different tone, like a big blockbuster adventure, and thankfully no more flashbacks. Really enjoyed it. As above, the kid actors in this are excellent - but less so the adults.

So is the consensus that it's worth a watch?

My consensus is that I had more fun last week filing my tax return. I can't recall the last time a space adventure bored me rigid within 20 minutes, which is the point at which I decided not to waste any more of my time. Dull script, inert direction, and Toby Stephens. Milk cartons can out-act him.

I thought he was good in Black Sails but pretty average in everything else, including this.

Molly Parker is the surprise in this for me.

She's awful in it, she was great in House of Cards, Deadwood etc but she's not doing it for me in this. As above with Parker Posey. Smell the fart acting (ala Joey from Friends).

I'm 4 in and dumping it.

That being said, it isn't going anywhere is it, it'll be there for ever.

Will give it a watch when I'm next sick or something

Robot is the best character on the show. The others run around and talk way too much.

Disappointing that it's no good, I used to love the original as a kid, was looking forward to this until I read all these!

Likewise. Without dissecting into the logic, scientific possibilities etc, the 60s version was simple, entertaining and enjoyable in a silly sort of way. 20 minutes into S1 Ep1 of this new series and I could not stand any of the characters and the 'family' as a whole came across as awful.

Is it better than the Matt le Blanc version?

Come on, reading the back of a crisp packet is better than anything Matt le Blanc has been in his whole career.

Gary Oldman's Dr Smith before he goes all spider CGI is far more menacing. The original Dr Smith was to pervy and would probably be on the sex offenders register today

Parker Posey's version is just too craptastick for words and had this been a traditional TV show with a pilot and made on a weekly basis would have recast her straight away.

Having watched the season I thought it was a good watch and didn't overstay its welcome the finale ended with a decent cliffhanger.

Lost in Space probably starts proper with season 2

Halfway through and quite enjoying it in a 'let it wash over me' kind of way....still not sure about Dr Smith though...maybe that plotline sorts itself out later...

cheers

Maybe its just me, but the Robot reminds of a Geth from Mass effect. Not exactly the same

Finished season 1, it was just ok, last half of the final episode got interesting for a season 2

Just watched 1st episode tonight.
Will admit, and I know this is just 1st impression of 1st episode, I'm deeply disappointed, but I DO SO HOPE this will change.
I was very much in the "GET ON WITH IT" mood after a short time, with all the personal interaction and such like.
But of course, this is episode one, so I guessed I expected a bit of character development/history was going to take place.

Just one thing that annoyed me like hell.
Of the temps gonna drop, it's ice cold, water freezing, bitter, how can anyone survive this intense cold?
In fact it's soooo cold, it's almost cold enough I may have to zip up my jacket, or, even, worse case, put my hood on my head, but no.
Despite the killing cold, I'll not bother.

Weird how something so small, hoods down and zipper not done up tight despite the severe icy conditions just bugged me the entire 1st episode.
(Oh and the continuing thought that ice does not freeze like that in a body of water)

But hey, now episode one of establishing character back stories are out of the way, I'm genuinely hopeful we can get onto the deep rooted concept of encountering new and exciting things, whilst being "lost in space"
