They were excellent! FAR more drums than I expected - frequently one of the other members of the band would get some percussion on stage and fill out the sound. Really impressed!

Really want to see Doug Stanhope again but the nearest venue is standing only. Never been to a standing stand-up gig. It just seems wrong.

hehe ... I'm not going, but my mate is v.excited as he used to roadie for them. Cult following in the 80s, 500+ gigs and quite a few albums.

Apparently, they're actually pretty normal decent blokes and it's all a bit of an act (whereas the lads in New Order on the other hand seemed to live the actual Macc Lad life ...!)

Quote:
Setting out their stall from the off as “the rudest, crudest, lewdest, drunkest band in Christendom”, the Macc Lads – formed by songwriter and bassist Muttley McLad – sang of beer, sex, late-night takeaways, fighting and “hating queers”. Their problem was that in the (very necessary) 80s first wave of political correctness, they were taken at face value rather than as what they actually were: taboo-trashing, near-the-knuckle, defiantly unapologetic satirists.

Emerging in the mid-80s into a British alternative music scene largely defined by the Smiths, Billy Bragg and Red Wedge, they were inevitably dismissed with horrified shudders as sexist, chauvinistic boors. Had they appeared during the following decade of knowing irony, Loaded, Fat Les and, well, lads, it’s likely they would have been lionised.

It is hard, in a post-Yewtree world, to make a convincing case for Julie the Schooly, who would “swap a knuckle shuffle for a note to get off games”. Yet nor did the band deserve to be ostracised as cultural pariahs. They were a coarse yet clever spoof; far more Paul Calf than Roy “Chubby” Brown. At their best, riling Bob Geldof into legal action with their Band Aid parody, Feed Your Face, they were laudably irreverent agents provocateur.

Am going to the QOTSA gig - check out Miles Kane as well who is supporting. Going to see Liam G the same weekend. A few others.

Embrace next week. A couple of Manic Street Preachers gigs, Blossoms, Guns N Roses, Rolling Stones, Foos in London and then LA in September. Trying to get the other half to agree to go to lollapalooza in Paris in July as well.

That's in the US right?

We could do the Denver show but I'm only interested in the B52s so probably won't bother at that price.

Yes. The venue isn't too far from where I work so it's pretty handy.

Arcade Fire @ Wembley Arena last night. Bloody hell.

(nice guest appearances by Florence (without the Machine) and, er, Boy George. Yes, an arena full of Arcade Fire fans getting down to Karma Chameleon.
