Plus two group games and a round of 16 game. England should play two group games at Wembley and one at Hampden if they qualify, followed by a last 16 game in Copenhagen or Dublin.

Is that how it's supposed to work. You play in your home nation where possible? How would that work if we were drawn against others who have home games?

I think it was a penalty, Perisic clearly pats the ball down with his hand, it's not like it comes off his upper arm or something.

I'm baffled by Subasic, he was obviously carrying an injury still, he made no real attempt to save either Pogba or Mbappe's shots.

For the group stages, host teams who qualify will be drawn into groups based in their host city pairings. I presume when the draw is made those countries will be pre-selected into those groups and other teams drawn around them. You can have two hosts in the same group, but they'd have to be the two hosts in that pairing, so we could, theoretically be drawn into the same group as Scotland if we both qualified and they would play two games at Hampden. There would then be lots drawn for the host of the game between them.

These are the group pairings:-

Group A: Rome and Baku
Group B: Saint Petersburg and Copenhagen
Group C: Amsterdam and Bucharest
Group D: London and Glasgow
Group E: Bilbao and Dublin
Group F: Munich and Budapest

Thanks for the explanation, England playing in Glasgow seems a good idea.

How many times did the referee go to the VAR screen and then not give a penalty? I don't recall many.

Considering the worries before the tournament started it was a massive relief not to hear of any hoolagnism, but what happened to the Russian Ultras who were causing chaos in the Euros? I wonder if they were all rounded up for the duration?

Nice not to hear of any racism too. The only fans I heard being investigated for chants were the English for chanting no surrender.....

I would suspect that they are hooligans abroad in countries where they will be told off, spend the night in a cell and be sent on their merry way. When the punishment for embarrassing the country by attacking foreign fans is probably 20 years in a Gulag, you probably think twice.

Not the same position of course, but we already have a player who is world class in Kieran Trippier. The problem is that at almost 28 he probably has just one more World Cup in his belt.

If Trippier had a weakness in this tournament, it is that he was too committed and tried to be everywhere at once. He never missed an opportunity to get into the melee within England's own penalty box which probably contributed to his self-confessed error with the Colombia equaliser but i would not hold that against him. But look at the way he kept running back and forth, stealing possession from the opposition countless times. IMO he is England's best player of the tournament, followed by Pickford.

How the heck has Trippier become world class in the space of 1 month ?? Cos he certainly wasn't anywhere near world class at the end of the May.

Trippier played well when a lot of other players were fairly anonymous, scored a crucial goal and had decent delivery. I really wouldn't call him world class, but he played well and really looked like he wanted to be there.

Trippier was excellent on the WC, probably Englandís best player, and I didnít see a better right back play for anyone else.

The classification of what is a world class player is always subjective. However, I certainly donít believe you can be World Class based off of 7 games - 2 of which we lost, and 2 were against Tunisia and Panama!

If he plays like he has done for England over the next season, puts in MOTM displays for Spurs against the top teams in the PL and also the CL, then yes he can be World Class - and he has the potential to do this, but at the moment he is not.

Very similar with Pickford - heís been excellent, but Iíd argue Lukaku is the only decent striker her faced and that was for a total of an hour. He had a much much better tournament than De Gea for example, but DDG is World Class and without doubt one of the 5 top keepers in the world. Pickford is not, but could be if he keeps it up.

Kane is our only WC player, who has proved it time and again over the last few years.

There was a report on BBC News yesterday saying the ultras had reached an agreement with the police not to cause trouble
