Tapatalk ban seems way OTT.

People sign up to tapatalk so it’s for tapatalk to have a data use policy. It’s just a conduit for access to the site and only used by those actively signing up to it. Surely it’s not your problem?

That's where I'm confused - it's no different to a browser.

In fact, why the GDPR burden isn't being put on browsers - which could easily ask for consent and block cookies/scripts on various sites without widescale technical changes to sites, I'm not sure.

If you do a search, there's stuff from Tapatalk that indicates they'll be piggy-backing on some kind of Amazon-based service. I wouldn't claim to understand it, but presume it's a form of verification or 'tick mark' that provides some kind of audit and guarantee.

Good news is Tapatalk have now released a GDPR compliant plugin so will be looking to get that integrated.

Nothing from Forum Runner yet though.

Update on what I've done today:

1/ All users who haven't accessed the site in three years are now anonymised
2/ All IP addresses have been removed up until today
3/ All Private Messages have been deleted prior to 1st January 2018

I am currently rebuilding thread information as there may still be references to old usernames. These will be corrected today.

Later today I will be:

1/ Updating the Tapatalk plugin
2/ Making final changes to Privacy Policy
3/ Sending an email to all non-anonymised accounts

I am still working on:

1/ Consent popup
2/ JSON download of personal data

Some other forums have banned Tapatalk (not that I've ever used it after once trying it and hating it years ago)

What's a tiny bit irritating, is on my Tablet, again and again and again, when I click on a forums link to a post here, a pop up "do you wish to install tapatalk" window keeps popping up.

Is that the fault of my Tablet, or these forums not, in some way remembering my selection?

We have now added our custom consent tool - provided by our ad provider. You'll see the popup on your next visit to the site.

The aim was to have it behave like a standard cookie bar and not to prevent you from reading content so hopefully it's not too intrusive.
