Asking someone to knock you out of a gym is absolutely fine. What it says it that you don't have an alt account to do exactly that, like lots of people have.

This is what irritates me, they all seem to do so but complained at me for doing that. I have my only account (everyone else seems to have at least 2) and as such most of the gyms are hard to get into and I don't really want to have a second account.

I don't think anyone ever had a problem with someone going to a gym physically and taking it, whatever their motivation. If you want to stay in, golden razz is your friend.

I aim not to attack gyms where the mons have been there less than 8 hours
If there are a few in close proximity, I'll only take one of them if players have ones in each.

Had a good system of knocking one out at night then it being taken back the following morning so all got the coins for the day

I generally knock them out in the morning, if I've got my coins I don't massively bother though

You get to evolve or power up lots of Larvitars ?

Basically to get a pokemon from level 20 (a Larviatar from an egg hatch) to a level 40 Tyranitar will cost you 225,000 dust and 373 candies (238 to power it up and 125 to evolve it twice) so even having 1000 candies still only gets you 2 really good tyranitars

So adventure 'week' starts tonight and lasts for 12 days

https://pokemongolive.com/post/adventureweek2018

Leave No Stone Unturned during This Adventurous Event!
Trainers,

Adventurous new research is on tap during an exciting in-game celebration! Starting on May 24 at 1:00 P.M. PDT, unique Field Research will be available with some exciting rewards, including a Raid Battle appearance by Pokémon such as Aerodactyl.

Throughout the celebration, Rock-type Pokémon such as Geodude, Lileep, and Nosepass will appear more frequently in the wild. There are also incentives to trek around: your Buddy Pokémon will earn Candy 4× faster throughout the event! Plus, you’ll receive extra XP for spinning the Photo Discs at PokéStops or Gyms—up to 10 times the usual amount if this is your first time encountering a unique PokéStop or Gym!

Fortune favors the bold, Trainers, so join this adventure before it ends on June 5. Get up and GO!

I'm really tired and wasn't going to go out for a walk at lunch time (Liverpool city centre), I might have to now though!
