Psycho

Dial M for Murder
Rebecca
Vertigo
Rear Window
You should definitely watch "Notorious", which looks to me more and more like Hitch's best film, and "Spellbound", one of the most lunatic exercises in romantic melodrama ever dreamed up and all the better for it.

Of his final four films, the best is "Frenzy" without a doubt and the worst is "Topaz" - although even that has some good scenes dotted about. "Torn Curtain" has one essential scene and a lot of filler from the awful Julie Andrews. "Family Plot" is enormous fun but nothing special.

Thanks Mike - I'll try to seek those ones out

I was late getting in to work this morning, and in my rush to leave the house, completely forgot about bringing my R2 copy of The Birds in with me

I've set a reminder to go off on my phone though, and I'll bring it in tomorrow for sure so we can check those R2 R1 differences

...is it me, or is my first screen shot really dark? It looked fine at home, but just looks like a black rectangle on my PC here at work! It should be a picture of Tippi Hedren's legs as she walks into the department store at the beginning of the film.

Well, It does look a little dark to be honest mate - what did you use to capture the image with?

Used PowerDVD to copy into the clipboard, and then saved it with Paint Shop Pro. As I say, looked fine at home - weird! I'll recapture it tonight and replace the image.

Duplicate of this thread I'd say.

Would be nice to keep all this stuff in one place, especially the lists of best versions as it's so complicated.

I got The Birds R1 this morning and was surprised how good looking the transfer was! It's a lot better than the Rear Window and Vertigo transfers.
The screen capture of Tippi's legs is a lot darker than I saw it earlier BTW.
Also, has anybody gotten their Criterion box yet. I've been waiting for this set to come out since the very day it was announced {what, like two months ago** and now that's it finally coming I have no money!
Could somebody tell me the entire total they paid for it with customs, packaging and all and where they got it from whilst I go and cry!

Got mine from DVDSoon today, megacheap with the coupon that was knocking about.

Lovely art on the outer sleeve, but who's dumb idea was it to make the opening at the bottom of the box??...

Apart from that, the discs are identical to the individually available Criterion discs (i.e: superb), although on the outer box it mentions a 5 disc set, it does include the 2 disc version of Rebecca, making 6 discs in all.

Here you go Budge:

I guess I must have caught the fade in at the start of the film with my first attempt!

Just ordered it and got $10 off with the voucher from here. If you can find another cheap disc to buy, then you should also get free shipping too

Well, if anyone is interested, I've brought the R2 disc in to work, want me to do a screen grab of the same point as tips4tnt has

If I do a grab, could I email it to someone to host for me?

Well, just by looking at the shot above, and the one I have on my machine here, mine is definetetly 4:3 - or 1.33.1 as labelled on the back of the box, I have to admit that the shot posted by tips4tnt if much better, and it would make a good comparison for widescreen V fullscreen prints

Looks like it's a pan & scan R2 then

...by the way folks, don't use the images to make any comparisons between the colours as they were captured on two different PC's (plus I've brightened mine up a bit).

hmmm, the colours look a bit sharper on my shot - that could be down to the shadow/lighting in the scene though, they aren't identical.

However, I'd rather have the widescreen print, but for £10 I suppose I can't complain
