If friendly aliens landed on Earth....

.....and you were chosen to pick 3 films for them to analyze as a taste of human nature, what 3 would you pick? (Assume they can understand any language)

Personally I'd want to avoid anything too violent or depressing so my 3 would be:

1) Jaws - Family life and man vs nature
2) Apollo 13 - Our early attempts at space travel + dealing with crisis
3) Planes Trains & Automobiles - our struggles to live together and daily life

Just don't let them read the book then, Richard Dreyfuss is shagging Roy Scheider's wife!

And he dies a horrible, horrible death whilst Brody looks on sniggering!

How about. um, They Live? That's what you do with aliens, get Roddy Piper to kick their ass.

American History X
It's a Wonderful Life
The Notebook

These would give them a a lot of insight into Human nature. Love, depression, Violence, racial problems, anger, fidelity and death.

Good question by the way!

I would put on only one - Eurotrip

It's all in there. Love, brotherhood, religion, the human condition, different cultures, fit blondes with their baps out, Vinnie Jones.

Apocalypse Now
Tokyo Story
Hoop Dreams

Return of the Jedi and tell them that this is a historical account of what happened the last time we were at war with no good aliens, make them think twice about taking all the water harvesting humans for food.
