It's A Wonderful Life - best quality

which version of 'It's A Wonderful Life' should I buy.
I see from a review that the R1 by Republic Studios is meant to be the superior over the R2 'Universal' one (this was a review of th 1999 release) - but I see in the UK you can get a R2 dated November 2005, that has a Republic logo on the front - would this be the same as the R1 version, or just repackaging of the original 1999 UK one?

Thank you

This question was asked quite recently in this thread ; the R1 was produced from original elements by Artisan (and will no doubt come again from Paramount who now have the rights to the Republic catalogue), while Universal has the rights to Republic Studio releases in the UK (unfortunately). The recently repackaged R2 is no different to the '99 release - R1 all the way (still).
