Okay, this is strange. Decided to watch IAWL last night and the film wouldn't even start. The disc is recognised in the PS3 menu, I start it and the screen goes black and I get a spinning circle in the top right corner, then I end up back at the menus again. I've got a region A PS3 and a UK Blu-ray but it's supposed to be region free and I don't get any error message to say otherwise

The disc menus are probably encoded as SD/PAL or 1080i/50 (I think this is correct). The US PS3 has issues with those formats and won't play them.

I just read this on Blu-ray.com regarding this problem:
Quote:
Plays on my Panasonic BD30, but does not automatically go to menu page, just sits in the machine doing nothing. Pressing 'Menu' though activates with no problems.
So press the pop up menu button on your PS3 remote and you should be be able to select the movie from there.

No luck. I don't have a remote but hitting the square button (which is the popup menu) doesn't do anything and I'm back to the OS in seconds. It might work if I had the time to do anything, as it appears to with the BD30, but the PS3 scrambles you back to the menu if it's not working. Tried hitting the triangle button and then selecting the popup menu button and the same thing happens. Hard because you only have a second or so to do it in.

Do you have the original release or the current re-issue? If you have the earlier one, it might be worth taking it into HMV, explain that it doesn't work, exchange it for the newer one and hope that one does work.

If it doesn't, just buy the U.S. disc. That will work and at least then, you can frisbee the stupid colour version out the window.

I'd love that especially since I didn't buy it at HMV AFAIK the disc on the new one is exactly the same anyway. I think the best thing I can do is flog it and get the yankee version down the line or invest in a muti-region player instead.
