No way in the world this should have been a penalty, as Vettel says how was he supposed to slow or control the car over the grass, he had to counter steer to correct the car as it came back. Surprised Hamilton wants to celebrate this one really, the way he got out the car.

Also robbed us of a great race . Hamilton would have had a good go to get pass if he had to.

Ridiculous decision.

Surprised (or not) that people are criticising Hamilton though, who probably hasn't even seen a replay in the cold light of day.

He saw it first time around and a strong opinion at the time

I must have dreamed Lewis asking his team to send incident to stewards when it happened.

Vettel handled that with class.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find many drivers not doing the same for most racing incidents, even for those they're actually at blame themselves.

So much for the FIA Ferrari bias.

Awful decision.

..the 'stewards' have previously commented that decisions have to be made in CONTEXT, not just black and white. And in context, this was a 60/40 to Seb. So should NOT have been a penalty.

My criticism of Hamilton is based on his celebrating as if the stewards hadn't just awarded him the victory, until he heard the boos.

Ultimately though, its the interpretation of the rule that is wrong, for me.

Is this a first?
Are we all agreed?!

1. The penalty was wrong
2. F1 drivers are generally self-centred narcissists.
3. Finding the balance between regulations and racing is proving difficult.

I think they said that was to counter the rear end snapping out right, and causing a spin, which would have hit Lewis, and probably resulted in a red flag in that location of the track.

Which is why I pointed out he hadn't even seen a replay of what happened, let alone seeing it from Seb's view, to be able to tell that the decision was wrong.

I change my mind sometimes about some incidents when viewing different angles - so it seems harsh to criticise a driver for not making a great reading of a situation while they're trying to simultaneously pass and avoid crashing, having that opinion seemingly confirmed by stewards, and then celebrating accordingly.

If thatís the case he wasnít rejoining the track safely.

Itís a debatable penalty for sure but itís easy enough to see why it was given.

I've just viewed the replay a number of times , I think that's the car squirming around under him as he got it back under control.

I dislike Vettel a lot, but have to say that was a really harsh penalty and I wouldn't be surprised if an appeal overturned it. However, today I'm glad I'm not seeing that damn finger being waved around.

No appeal allowed and it would be wrong to as it changed mindset of Hamilton who was happy to sit behind Vettel but inside the 5s window.

On a completely different note, liked the radio feedback given to Magnussen...

Yes good leadership there from Steiner, protecting the morale of the team. Magnussen made an apology to the team and mechanics on the cool down lap.
