I personally don’t agree with the semis being played at Wembley in any case. But if they reach the final that would always be at Wembley, so don’t see the point in forcing the semi involving spurs to be played elsewhere.

They should never have been allowed to use Wembley as their 'home' ground in the first place, just 'cos they're building a new stadium, that's their problem. They should have shared with Arsenal or West Ham.

...if they do go on to win it there's bound to be a shadow over it 'cos of their home advantage!

"Wembley" is totally devalued. I accept they had to make it work as a business, but the very idea of going to Wembley is part of the reason most teams don't give a crap about the FA Cup: it's just a bunch of 'pretend' prestige.

Jose hit the nail on the head in his post match interviews: personality. We have none. I think it's a football problem, going forwards, too. Towards the end of the match, losing 2-0, a Brighton player was laughing and joking with Mourinho on the touchline during a break in play. I've seen our own do it. I've seen Pogba and his ilk make light of a defeat, almost like their focus is on 'whats next'.

I think fans want the players to hurt the way that they do. Like Gary Neville and Steven Gerrard and Tony Adams and John Terry used to. I'm not sure that the players, of all teams, feel the same way anymore.

I think you've pretty much hit the nail on the head.

For me, there are three types of players :
a. Those who genuinely love the club they play for,
b. Those who are very competitive and hate losing,
c. Those who play football because they can and it offers fabulous financial rewards.

There used to be more a's and b's, but because of the increased money in the game there are more c's now, unfortunately.

Agree with that. And there is no way the FA didn't think of the scenario when the rented it out to Spurs.

They keep moaning about clubs devaluing their prestige competition when, in reality, the only ones devaluing it are them with their. ... semi finals at Wembley, non-3pm kick off times, the final sharing the day with other games, etc etc.

It's not new though is it, didn't it start in 1991?

What, semi finals at Wembley? That has only happened since the new Wembley opened. IIRC it started cos there was an Arsenal v Spurs semi final and they (the FA) argued it made sense logistically. They then claimed the clubs and fans wanted it so kept it. A 5:30pm Final kick off time is also, apparently, solely because the fans wanted it.

Having the cup final on the same day as other matches is the worst of the lot. It used to be a very special day, no matter whether your team was there or not. Unfortunately they have to balance the books, how much will Wembley get for each Spurs game Ł1m? Chelsea are likely to play there as well are they not when they start building their new stadium?

However with ref to home advantage at Wembley, I’ve been to three Spurs Home matches this season, Utd, Real Madrid and Arsenal. The atmosphere at the Utd vs Palace cup final was far better than all of them, Spurs at Wembley has the feel of Arsenal at the Emirates, hardly any atmosphere - it’s full of loads of people who rarely watch Tottenham and are there just for a day out! Or people like me who just want to go and watch a match every now and again, live close and don’t even support them.

When the fans are 50/50 there will be minimal advantage to for Spurs.

Spurs v Arsenal in 1991 was the first, then we had both in 1994 and 1995, both in 2000 (all at old Wembley), both in 2005 (at the Millennium) and then every year since 2008 (at new Wembley).

Time is a cruel mistress.

Just remember, it was the year after you last won the title.

Was that Spurs vs Arsenal semi just because there were 2 London teams? Who was the other semi - Forest vs someone? Presumably that was at a different neutral ground?

Forest beat West Ham 4-0 at Villa Park.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_FA_Cup_Final

The Spurs / Arse semi was memorable for Gazza's free kick, and Barry Davies' 'he's not going to have a crack is he? HE IS YOU KNOW' (words to that effect).
