I too think it will be KMag.
And I hope he goes on to do really well.

As a fan of JB, I will miss not seeing him in F1, but I don't think "poor JB" really.. he's had a relatively long F1 career, got a WC, got squillions in the bank, a hot fiancée, offers to go drive in a different motorsport, and a rounded enough sense of perspective to have said the same thing a few weeks ago in an interview, where he said "don't feel sorry for me..".

But I've definitely been put off supporting McLaren, from the way they have handled this. Appalling PR for the company, and I suspect not the best enticement for potential sponsors...

In 2015, I will be supporting Williams, and cheering on Massa and Bottas for the wins...

Agreed, they might be surprised how much support they lose through this. Someone's going to lose their seat, fair enough that's business - but the apparent mess they've made of the process is quite staggering from the outside.

I think it'll be Mag too.

Its a sad day when even McLaren have to go for the cheaper option. Mind you, if they hadn't spunked a reputed 25M a season on Alonso they'd be better off.

That said good luck to Mag. He's a good up and coming talent.

Glad to be proven wrong!

Have a feeling there'll be something about KM anyway - would he be prepared to wait one year (reserve driver or something) and JB just has one final year, keeping the seat warm?

Saw on Twitter that the Danish media have been invited to McLaren so I assume they must have something for them?

I'll wait until the official press conf. to be sure, but looks like good news for JB; doesn't change my opinion of McLaren though.

McLaren have gone down a lot in my opinion as well. Jenson is one of my favourite drivers ever & a true gentleman. With Alonso there, maybe that is the thinking behind it, Jenson won't ruffle too many feathers. McLaren now have one of the nicest & one of the most detestable drivers in the same team. Sweet & Sour.

Yep, cautiously optimistic here too, but I need to see it in black and white!

That article says "BBC Sport has learned they have decided to retain Button" - wonder what the source is, and how reliable the information could be. Hopefully it wasn't Eddie Jordan...

Same article:

"Alonso is reputed to have signed a deal worth $40m (£25.5m) a year, which would make him the best-paid driver on the grid.
...
Button will be on a one-year deal at a salary reduced by at least half from the reputed £12m he was earning in 2014."

So Fernando supposedly being paid over four times as much as JB.

Crazy isn't it? Must be hell to only be earning £6m a year

Glad JB got the seat, will be nice for him to decide when he wants to leave rather than being dropped by the team.

Officially confirmed by McLaren now, Jenson to stay partnered with Alonso. Should make for an interesting year! I am delighted that Jenson will stay as he's the main reason I watch F1, but I have to wonder how happy he's going to be staying in a team that's treated him this way.

I'd imagine Alonso is fairly happy with that outcome. An experienced bloke who can develop the car/engine package and won't feel like he has anything to prove against him, unlike the last bloke he was team-mates at McLaren with.

Yeah, especially when you read the BBC article and realise the stats mean Alonso is only twice as good...

Guess Jenson will have to send off his "Thanks for your kind offer but I must politely decline due to extenuating circumstances" letter to the WEC lot now.
