Xbox One & Apple TV 3rd gen don't detect 50hz content and play it either.

Do I need to block the Amazon Fire TV from auto updating?

Depends what you are doing with it, do you need a specific software version, are you rooting the device? Otherwise no real reason to block updates.

If it is kodi I wouldn't worry too much there is even code in the launcher to place kodi in the recent items list.

Yes, but as Amazon Fire TV will update itself then Amazon could block Kodi whenever it wanted to?

I personally feel that Amazon turn a blind eye to it because at the end of the day, it means more sales of Fire Sticks.

To be honest though I don't think Kodi is that great. It's certainly nothing to be relied upon. If there's a Premier League 4PM game on then it's stutters and freezes due to how many others are logged in.

Decent for films but even then the sound mix can be all over the place.

I don't Kodi will ever get blocked like that, you would have to either write some specific code just to block that app or block sideloading which would hamper developers.

Possible new UI refresh on the way, these leaked shots show a more Plex, kodi like presentation.

Issue - Amazon Fire TV 1st Gen.

Amazon prime playback is quite stuttery.

Cleared Amazon cache. Restarted it. Still the same.

Anyone help please?

Screen settings set to 60hz, 50hz or auto? Try switching them

Tried all those. Netflix, YouTube etc seems ok. Amazon Prime video seems to skip frames every so often - it plays ok on my blu Ray player.

Seems odd that amazons main function of the box doesn't seen to play very well

You should definitely open a support request with them. They are really pushing the fire tv and Prime so care much about it and would be interested in sorting this out.

I had a problem with a third party controller on the fire stick after the OS5 update. They eventually gave me £50 to get an Amazon controller!

So they may even give you a FTV2 or something!

I didn't buy the Fire TV Gen 1 from them though.

I could try a factory reset... but it means setting up KODI again..

Read up on it:

Amazon fire tv/stick can only output 50hz or 60hz. Most films original output should be 24hz, so the Fire devices are not able to show films how they are intending to be shown, so 60hz won't be as smooth and as far as prime goes on my device its not playing too well compared to:

Apple TV 3rd gen (airplay) - 60hz (doesn't have occasional jumps.)
Samsung blu ray player will play prime in 24hz - so its smoother (it also auto switches so will play iPlayer at 50hz)

Its pros and cons, the Samsung player's smart apps are so slow. The Apple TV and Amazon Fire won't autoswitch - so they default to 60hz. But the samsung player can drop audio at times, which Fire and Apple TV never do. I even tried the latest Samsung blu ray player and that had choppy playback on apps - worse than my current older player.

Shame in a way, as the Fire TV has the fastest and easiest front end and Plex, Netflix, iPlayer etc. seem to play OK. Prime is the one thats a bit problematic. Also there's Kodi on it as well..

You can force it to play 24hz etc. by holding down the top and reverse buttons - its very buggy though as the onscreen menus are not designed to be played at 24hz!

Something like that happens with my Fire TV stick if my Panasonic TV's frame interpolator (Intelligent Frame Creation) is turned on. Some content was unwatchable with little pauses and skips until I turned that off.

Not that for me as my Panasonic tv doesn't have that feature or any motion features.

Nice revamp of the music section now live, which has been replaced by a Amazon music app ahead of the forthcoming UI refresh.

Does anyone know if we'll be getting the updated version of the Fire TV stick in the UK anytime soon?

It's available to buy on Amazon.com but nothing on the UK site yet.

That's not Kodi though, that's the likely illegal stream you're watching via a third party addon. Kodi's primary focus is playing back local media.
