Well that episode was totally different to that has been before. I really enjoyed it, but my son is starting to lose interest.

Good Lord! Its been a long time since I felt the need to comment on an episode of Lost! This was absolutely fantastic.

I also hated the last Desmon episode and in fact, HATED the whole time travel/distortion stuff (I have a vague memory of the writers saying that everything had a logical explanation).

With that episode I am now on board - they can what the hell they please. The build up, the drama, the possibility of death and the fact that in Lost - there's no reason why the wouldn't have let Desmond die, so I genuinely wasn't sure what the outcome would be. The actress who plays Penny is a touch wooden, but in that final scene I thought she nailed it. I actually found myself getting a little teary - not an emotion Lost has got out of me before!!

Like an earlier poster - this is the first time since season 1 of Lost and not many series since, that I am gagging for the next episode.

I should add some speculation and questions but I will save that for another time, I just enjoyed the ride this episode. Really quite excellent. I truly hope that the way they tie this up, it does merit a rewatch from day 1.

Now that i've had time to digest what happened this week, my theories are...

The reason we saw Daniel getting all emotional at the news of the plane-crash is because he's lived it all before & knows what is going to happen? ... Hence the scene last week with the playing cards. He's already did it before & is losing his memory of what had happened. Hopefully now he has his "Constant" this memory will return? ... Maybe it's Daniel in that coffin?

Even wackier & I hope wont happen ... what if Jack's "We've gotta get BACK!" means he wants to send his future consciousness back to the past to fix things. Maybe the Oceanic Six are the only survivors. Something happens between where we are now & the future flashbacks, that kills everyone but the six. Jack wants to change history & save everyone. He knows Daniel is the person who can make it possible, explaining why he (Jack) got all emotional at the coffin?

Still, I'm sure these things will become apparent at some stage!
Is it not 2007 in the outside world? Penny said she's been looking for Desmond for 3 years, we know there's a difference in time from either the Island and real world (or the passage between them). Des was supposed to call Penny in 2004, makes sense he thinks it's 2004 (the calendar, possibly the time the Lost folks think it is and tracked by the folks on the boat), he doesn't call but eventually does in real world 2007 thus Penny got worried so started looking for him.

I can't remember the setup for Desmond's last flashback type episode.

After the hatch blew, he had a similar type flashback when he was still aware of the island. The one with the old lady that started talking to him about fate and not being able to change things.

So was the "old lady flashback" in his head, or him jumping back to an earlier time again?

This episode made watching the seasons of turd before it a little more easier to swallow. But expect the next episode to totally ignore everything that happened in this one and instead feature Hurly running about the jungle and dive bombing into the sea in slow motion.

The whole constant thing is going to somehow tie into why some characters are showing up in other character's flashbacks. Their memories are probably forcing them in there for some reason. To stay sane? Maybe they are not all tied really, just making it so to stay alive? Oh ********, I don't know.

Fantastic episode, and I must admit to welling up towards the end too. Pansy.

Kinda makes you think that if you die on the island you may actually not be dead
The only way you can really die is if you suffer an anurysm due to the constant thing missing. Getting killed might be the best way off the Island

I cant explain it or ill have an anurysm but some of you may know what i mean.

So, the reason Faraday has memory loss is because he used his experiment on himself... Desmond going to him in the past fixed his memory problems? Cause he was his constant.

When the show first introduced Farady he's in his lounge crying, then suddenly in the helicopter that he has to jump out of.

So he's been jumping in time.

Makes one wonder if the island itself isn't simply a mental construct? But no, that's far too complicated!

I presumed Penny started looking for Des when his boat disappeared and he landed on the island, which would have been about three years before xmas 2004 (according to Lostpedia anyway)

So the madness, bleeding and aneurysm - is this the fabled "sickness" that polished off Rousseau's crew? Minkowski and his deceased colleague didn't even have to set foot on the island to get ill, and we know that Rousseau, like Desmond, came in by sea.

Great, great episode though. This series has been soooo good so far.

Brilliant episode - reminds me why I watched the first season all in one go

Mind after that cant help but think its a little "life on mars" in terms of its use of time travel

Clever argument which, knowing Lost, might well be the case

Top episode. Very moving with a lot of potential meanings.

I think he'd just clicked there's some time distortion going on. Looks like the constant is exactly why characters pop up in other's flashbacks.

How many more weeks do we have? Think I'm going to rewatch from the start now - not as if there's much else on
