The Manchester United Thread - 2010-11

New rulz, new thread.

Older thread here: -

http://forums.thedigitalfix.co.uk/fo...597936&page=94

I was also tempted to 'take' the City thread too, but I could see that ending in tears.

Thought both sides played a rather poor game tonight, playing badly so far this season yet still top of the table, looking good!

We really weren't great but the game should have been over much sooner. Still a solid enough performance defensively and a victory so there's no reason complain. I'd happily settle for another 1-0 win at the weekend!

Maybe the pitch was why they clocked up 14 fouls too?

Must have all been Nani diving around then - no way those saints in yellow shirts would foul a player

I think Rooney will be taking all the penalties, anything to get his goal tally up. Otherwise this whole...give him a huge rise & tie him to a longer contract so they can sell him for a futune next season (or the one after that), scam, just won't work. Unless he starts scoring in open play, there's not going to be much of a cue for him, esp. not at the money that Man U will be asking for him.

Ummm, Wenger's said the pitch didn't help either side play good football...but has praised your lot for playing well...once again, one of his quotes is taken out of context

I hope for the sake of both teams Wenger was right about the pitch. Because the number of misplaced passes by both sides last night suggests Barcelona could run up double digits against both sets of players.

Anyway United played a very smart game last night. Once again Fergie came up trumps in terms of tactics to thwart Arsenal's style of play. And Wenger simply had no answers. It wasn't pretty but in games like this it's always the result that counts.

United played a very intelligent game I thought, Arsenal never looked like they would score and it was only poor finishing that stopped the scoreline being a few more in our favour.

Maybe Giggs should take the pens if he's playing as the few I've seen him take have been bang in the corner.

Why are we so bad at set pieces/corners (for a while now)? When Chelsea get a corner I always think they could score, but when we get one I never think we will score.

One word: Nani. Occasionally he delivers the perfect ball from a set piece. But way more often than not, he gets it badly wrong. The set pieces last night were utterly abysmal. Every time Vidic charged forward to get his head on a decent cross from a set piece, it was quickly followed by him needing to scamper back without even being given a chance to compete for a ball. It was either an appalling cross that failed to beat the first man, or a badly worked short corner that went nowhere (my pet hate).

It seems to be a modern trend of the prized showboaters though, them failing to beat the first man with a bread and butter cross.

the malaise pre-dates Nani by quite a distance...
