Help identifying a 70's/80's Italian post apocalyptic sci-fi?

OK I could just be imagining this one as it was while back.......

I'm pretty sure it was a dubbed Italian flick (due to the cast names) the 80's UK video cover gave it's title as Aftermath (ruined buildings and a group of shabby looking survivors depicted on it) it was definitely post-apocalyptic - unfortunately I remember little else about it.

I've already been pointed to The Aftermath (1982) AKA: Zombie Aftermath, but this looks to be a US or UK flick. Just the same I'll be giving it a watch later to make sure it isn't this one I'm remembering.

Just thought I'd see if anyone had any other suggestions in the meantime?

Was this one where an astronaut comes back to earth to find it over run by mutants?

That sounds right and is the plot of aforementioned Zombie Aftermath but I could've sworn the one I remember was dubbed into English.

There was another one as well, Def-Con or something, with a similar plot.

EDIT: Def-Con 4 (1985) from the creator of Lexx

That's the one I was thinking off - but if it jogs your memory, here's a couple of (very different) VHS covers. The second of them just as you describe:

VHS 1

VHS 2

They look like completely different films, don't they?

I remember someone wanted to buy it off me eons ago for Ł40 ahh the days of rare joke priced VHS tapes.

God you made me want to see it again now after maybe 10 years+

Hang on to it Romero, there's still a market for VHS titles! (I believe this has had a US DVD release if you're interested - can't comment on transfer though).

Ohh I will never throw them away they are in the loft, sealed in boxes, weigh a tonne as there is probibly 500 of them up there.
I did offload loads on Ebay a long time ago, some epople were over the moon at some rare titles and bidding wars went on. I know I have many that even now could in theory fetch a few quid, like "Night of the Creeps" them rental used to go for insane cash. Ahh the good old days

Yeah, biggest regret of mine was having a HUGE clearout come the dawn of DVD - thinking everything would be released at some point. Wrong - although a good deal has, many still have crap transfers or are destined to VHS obscurity. I still love VHS myself, it holds too many good memories and great movies (and the cover art was just brilliant).

You should back them up to DVD-R. Then you can rewatch them, and keep your VHS batch nice and safe. I keep meaning to pick up the VHS release of The Video Dead, which again I had once, although it has been on ebay before. The German Ed DVD is dubbed.

Well after locating a copy I've just had a quick watch of Zombie Aftermath (VHS quality tho, hadn't realised it was out on DVD) and it is indeed this film I was thinking of! Soon as I saw the moustachioed bloke in the green coveralls I remembered it, dunno why I thought it was dubbed, must just be the level of acting

Ratfink - Cheers for that 2nd cover, that's brought back fond memories!

Good to hear that's the one .

Just in case anyone's interested, here's the DVD at Amazon.co.uk

Horrible cover though. Why they couldn't have gone with the original artwork, god only knows..

Yeah, I did the same thing, I needed the space, but still, what a mistake.

That's a dreadful cover. I think I mentioned this on here some time ago, but the VHS cover for Galaxy of Terror was absolutely fantastic, then they went and put out a really naff DVD one, why change?

Romero, I hope your loft isn't too damp, otherwise you may unbox your tapes one day to find one big mass of mould!

Man that dvd cover really is soul destroyingly poor!

And hey my Vids should be fine, no damp as far as I know I seriously need to go and get them out mind you as I really should have a look at what I own and maybe shift some over to tape as people say. Never watched a video now for maybe 4 years.
