Just watched The Vikings again. I don't think it's the best film Douglas made but it is a beautiful looking piece of work, wonderful photography.

The Vikings is a terrific piece of hokum which drags you into its world everytime you watch. Jack Cardiffs photography is stunning and the close up shots of Douglas grinning and then going murderously serious are a joy. And of course a well done period piece never dates.

either of his Kubrick movies - Paths of Glory or Spartacus. probably go for the former because of its pacifist sentiment. not Tough Guys
