Surely the classic story about the wrong man being accused is "The Count of Monte Cristo", of which there are lots of film versions.

Thanks for some great ideas - keep 'em coming. So far I'm leaning towards NBNW. At least they'll see how films should be made. Shawshank is also tempting. Running man would be too much of a self-indulgence
