[DS] Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box

This is the second game in the series, the thread for the first game can be found here.

This is now out in the US. It's more of the same, as expected! I've only played through the first few puzzles, but they've added a few touches to make the UI a little nicer. You now have a memo-pad on puzzles so you can scribble notes that don't interfere with the puzzle itself, quite useful.

Looks like there will be another puzzle to collect pieces of and put together as you move through. You don't have the dog-building or bedroom-sorting this time, but there is a hamster mini-game included where you need to use items you have collected to help a fat little hamster get fitter. It doesn't seem too well explained though and I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Looking forward to getting addicted again

UK release date is one month from now, September 25th, for those wanting to wait.

Cool! Have had half an eye on this after the mrs got me the first as a surprise b'day pressie a little while back. Like you say, strangely addictive and a good 'sharing' game, if you know what I mean.

I'm just over the 100 puzzle mark on the other one so might tread carefully in the other thread until I'm done with the story.

cj is excited!! and about the game to ;-)

i have pre-ordered with argos when they did 20% off, i suppose i could have picked it up in Japan, but they don't do dual versions (unlike say pheonix writght games) so it would be pointless!!

my mum and dad love the first one so are taking it on holiday with us next month so i can help them out with the puzzles hehe.

I hope they move along and get the 3rd game translated much quicker than it took them the second this time.

Will be ages before we see a 4th game over here!

I thought 3 was the final one? Then they're doing that game with Square aren't they?

Edit: To answer myself, there's a second trilogy coming starting with the japanese release of PL4 in November 2009. They're doing "The another world" with Studio Ghibli and that's due out in Japan next year

BTW, Al you've mispelt one of the tags...

Lovely game - just as charming as the first; am only 25 or so puzzles into it so far, & there hasn't been anything too taxing yet, but it's so much fun.

Isn't this called Pandora's box? I'm sure I saw an advert that called it that, presumably it's called that here.

Yes, Pandora's Box here, Diabolical Box in the US. Probably because they reckon the average American doesn't know what Pandora's box is.

Completed this last week, though still plenty of puzzles here and there to mop up. The story wasn't as good as the first, but apart from that it's more of the same really.

Finally completed all 153(!) puzzles tonight. That's 13 hours of my life gone.

My favourite puzzles are the sliding block ones, though I find those the hardest. Puzzles 118 and 153 took me ages.

am enjoying it, 50 or so puzzles in.

Its not as good as the past one, though thats probably as the first one was so new and different.

I also dislike that its not clear sometimes what you need to progress - i was told to get back on the train and no option was given to do this. Had i not done enough puzzles? did i need to do the conductor one? and the train platform one (it appears both, or could be that those 2 took me over the level needed, who knows)

I never got turned away, but a couple of times characters said "my, you've done x puzzles already" almost in an 'ok, you can pass' kind of way.

done it now and just wandering around, making people cups of tea.

God those moving balls ones got annoying, you do 1 and then 6 more appear as puzzles, thats not sooo fun anymore.

will sell as soon as i have done the main ones, did anyone find the code you stick in game 1? (which i can't do as sold game 1 years ago).
