Nintendo Wii help, not reading disks......

My sisters nintendo wii which has had very light use wont read any disks that are inserted.

They have now said i can have it

Anyone with any ideas as to how i could fix it.....

Its 3 months out of warranty btw.

Ill get the correct error code in a moment when i connect it up.

thx

edit i can connect to the net and ive done a update, but when i try the news channel or the forecast channel, it just goes to a black screen then locks and i have to unplug it

edit2 if i put a disk in, i get the following.

The disk starts spinning on the nintendo wii menu then i get a the message

an error has occured. press the eject button and remove the disk then turn the wii console off and refer to the wii operations manual for trouble shooting.

Anyone with ideas?>

Have they done anything norty with it? Sometimes updates can semi-brick them. As far as getting the problem sorted, just google your area with the phrase "Wii repair" and there should be someone local who will be able to give you a quote. It doesn't sound too serious if you've successfully updated it.

The drive is broken, and needs to be replaced.

Even though it is out of warranty, give Nintendo a buzz - they sometimes repair for free

Surely it has to be more than a faulty drive, as that wouldn't affect the news or forecast channels.

I don't know about the channels, but when I had a similar problem with my Wii failing ro read discs, Nintendo replaced it, saying the drive was borked.

Just phone them and tell them what happens. It's worth mentioning that it's had very light use. They may not fix it for free, but it can't hurt to ask.

Ours is the same. Very rarely used, but it's dead fussy about the discs. It takes several goes for it to read the disc.

Make sure you test it fully on its return. I had to return mine due to a faulty GPU, and it was returned with the disk issue which you are currently suffering. Another two returns failed to resolve this issue, so they sent me a brand new Wii instead (complete with brand new warranty from the date of replacement)

Chances are they simply swapped your GPU-borked Wii with a drive-borked Wii. Doubt they'd actually bother to open it up. Mine was simply replaced with another shiny white box, although the disc-sucking action seems to slip worse than my first unit.
