Interesting comment here in the comment section of one review. He says that the picture quality of the program will really push 4K/HDR tv sales for... Amazon.

Must be honest, I've looked at a couple of 4K sets recently, mainly for possible PS4Pro purchases at some point, but this show only encourages me to keep looking.

I guess 4k sets will kick off when they become cheap enough, a bit like flat screens generally. They're getting there now, if my TV went kaput I'd probably look at a 4k

Not a bad idea that: "We see you're a fan of The Grand Tour, how about one of these 4K TVs we happen to sell? It would look glorious..."

I'm not sure they'd be able to use the viewing data for marketing like that, but I bet they could target the people like me that signed up for email alerts and news on tickets when they first signed the three amigos.

I want to see it, but my wife would rather watch "Theresa May speeches - extra long Director's Cut with added Tory Bile", she hates Clarkson - so not sure when!

There's 2 Championship games I want to watch on TV this weekend too so I'll have used up my allowable blokeishness

If you can't wait you could always stream it from Amazon's site on your computer, though it would be best on the telly.

I only have the Amazon app on my Xbox One but can't see any way to watch it on their.

Is there a reason for that?

If you are a Prime subscriber then watch it on a tablet or phone. I'm on android and use the Amazon Video app.
After signing in, find the show, then you can stream immediately, or download to the phone to watch offline.

I watched most of the show on the District Tube line on Friday morning

I looked for it later on the Amazon Video app on my smart TV, it was there, but I had to use the search to find it. It wasn't even under the 'recently added tv shows category'

Well I've never watched Top Gear before. Apart from a few of the specials. Which were pretty entertaining. I'm about as far from a car enthusiast as you can get.

But I bought an an amazon fire box yesterday, manly so the daughter could watch Netflix in the living room.

Sat down with the wife and gave TGT a try.

I found much of the "studio" stuff painfully scripted. But there was also plenty there that I found hugely fun and entertaining. As a newcomer I didn't think the BBC review was that far off the mark to be honest. Certainly didn't read that negatively to me.

But I'll be watching next week. Overall I found it pretty funny. Wasn't really expecting to.

Ah, I didn't search for it. Expected a big banner on front page or at least in recently added (like u said).

Will try a search.

EDIT: Sorted, found with search, which seems really strange not to have it on the front page.

That was a welcome return to what is the old Top Gear by any other name. The restrictions by the BBC were enormous, I expect Clarkson couldn't even end with, "...and on that bomshell." Yes the studio, sorry tent scrpited sequences were a tad crap, but that's what we expect.

Even on my 720p plasma you could tell the quality of the video footage was a class above.

Are they going to have all celebrity guests die tragically before reaching the tent? I hope so.

Well there wasn't really much "cheap telly" studio sections in the show, really it was just links to vidoes, if you're going to drag people into the desert to watch them, I guess they expect to see something.

Just watched it tonight.
Generally happy with it.
Agree some in-tent stuff, was probably just silly for silly sake, and I did enjoy the NEWS from the old show more.
Likewise the lack of the "tamed racing driver" for actual driving AND to use in the show elsewhere seems a loss, the new track looked a bit meh, despite trying to really hype it up.
But nonetheless, enjoyable, and of course, it's just show one.
So, a great start

I have noticed the "Season 1 if free for prime members" text at the bottom, and did cross my mind if perhaps season 2 may require an additional something to watch.

Do you think the BBC are going to dig their heels in, and still keep trying to make a Top Gear Mk2, with different presenters trying to be the same as the original trio.
Which kinda feels doomed long term.

Or that they may decide they need a car show, and to keep it fun for the family, but to steer away from what Top Gear was and try and make it something new and unique?

It would be like trying to make a Benny Hill Show, with someone other than Benny Hill, but to make it worse, Benny hill had just started with his new show on another channel, where benny hill fans can still see him.

Had to jump through a few hoops to get it going on my media centre PC (didn't have the WiDivine DRM stuff installed, Chrome wouldn't play ball so ended up with Firefox), and after it did play it kept pausing every few seconds as if the PC couldn't cope with decoding the video (audio was fine, albeit it seemed to be stereo). So off to the "other" place, and downloaded it in 720p. Looked and sounded amazing, even upscaled to 1080. I thought it was really good fun, few cringe-worthy jokes as expected, but overall watched it with a big grin on my face. Great to see the guys back.

I'd guess it was a big money making brand regardless, they can't just ditch it.

It now feels like Top Gear now, is what Fifth Gear was to Top Gear

I've noticed the Daily Mail trying to kick up a fuss because Clarkson compared a race track to the ebola virus.
