Re: What were the last 3 films you watched: Thread 3

Warm Bodies - decent enough new take on an established genre.

I Give It A Year - great in places, especially everything to do with Merchant, and very clichéd or OTT in others. Anna Faris looked appalling though, face/lip job gone wrong.

The Impossible - very good. Extremely difficult to watch in places. Not one for the squeamish.

Mimic 2 - low-rent cheesefest of a sequel. Bad, but good fun.

Lay the Favorite - Rebecca Hall forgets she can act, Bruce Willis looks bored & everyone else just seems to be making it up as they go. Confused, dull mess. Stephen Frears must have really needed a job, & it's hard to believe this was written by the guy who wrote Grosse Point Blank & High Fidelity . On the plus side, Laura Prepon goes topless.

Frankenweenie - Tim Burton at his most TimBurtonest. Brilliant stuff!

Bullet To The Head - Good crunchy totally inconsequential fluff fun.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower - Adored this. Felt totally genuine. Best coming of age film made since the 80's golden era of them.

The Mist - 2nd viewing of this. Id forgotten how brutal and unrelentingly grim this was. The ending is such a kick in the stones.

Seven psychopaths (inflight): Didn't like this at all - it seemed to not work on many levels.

This must be the place (BD rental): Loved this - great performance from Penn surely inspired by Ozzy Osborne as much as Robert E Smith; stunning stateside landscapes.

The Empire Strikes Back (R1): As entertaining as ever

Ok more than 3 as have not posted in a while.

Cloud Atlas - Was very odd and still confusing me the next day. 6.5/10 this may go up after another viewing.

The Hammer - Really enjoyed this about the first deaf person who won the NCWC (Wrestling) and then went on to UFC. Most of the roles are played by deaf actors too. 7/10

Any Given Sunday - Enjoyed it, but was missing something. 7/10

Remember the titans - Seen this a few times now and being in a NFL mood last week or so thought would stick it on again. Denzel gives a great performance 8.5/10

Radio - Not bad and most of the NFL films lately been true stories and here is another. 6.5/10

Friday Night Lights - Excellent NFL film and yes based on the book and the TV show based on the book and film. BBT was excellent as the coach. Highly recommend 9/10

The Blind Side - Another true story Enjoyed it but does have that hollywood gloss over it which is ruins little bits of it 7/10

Invincible - Was ok not as good as the previous films i have seen though 6/10

Got a few more NFL films to watch too.

Been trawling through loads just recently, so a bit of catching up to do on this thread...

Broken (2012)-outstanding drama 5/5

Compliance (2012)-grim hard hitting, and sickening to know this actually happened 4/5

The Liability (2012)-straight to dvd/on demand black comedy, well worth seeking out 4/5

Tower Block (2012)-daft but enjoyable nonsense 3/5

The Angels Share (2012)-a comedy/drama diamond from Ken Loach 5/5

I'd recommend Undefeated (2012), to add to your list of NFL films to watch. A documentary well worth watching

Biutiful. Feelgood family fare set in gorgeous Barcelona.

Stardust. Excellently cast and hugely enjoyable fantasy romp, marred only by a generic and horribly overbearing score that much of the time is turned up far past 11.

In the Heat of the Night. Mr Tibbs shows those honkies how to solve a murder.

(I won't count V/H/S as being watched, since I lasted ten minutes before chapter-skipping to the end. Spazcammery dragged to new depths, and if it were printed material I wouldn't line a hamster cage with it.)

The Artist - Brilliant story telling that takes us back to a different era - 9/10
The Avengers Assemble - Much better than I thought this was going to be, the banter between the characters was probably the main reason - 8/10
Black Gold - Overly long average film - 5/10

Loved the ending. Very satisfying when a certain character gets killed. 5/10

Alien³ - Apart from some ropey CGI, it's a good film 7/10

AvP - Entertaining with some great scenes 6/10

Lincoln (cinema): Solid and workmanlike, not outstanding; good performances from the leads. Luckily avoids any trademark Spielbergian mawkishness.

Cars II (BD): Very entertaining - may not be top flight Pixar but beautifully animated and if you approach it as being a standard spy flick it works very well. Loved spotting the classic cars in the backgrounds.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (BD): Pretty good if somewhat implausible.

Life of Pi - Bit slow going , very good 3D but didn't have the emotional impact it was aiming for. 6/10

Beautiful Creatures - Twilight with witches , far far more likable characters , quite witty script and some great scenery chewing from Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson 6/10

I give it a year - much funner than I expected ,although a few scenes went on too long.Ending was a bit too happy but all in all decent 7/10

Cheers for the heads up. Just seen this is on US Netflix and looks right up my Friday Night Lights-alley.

The Illusionist – Amazing animation but not a patch on the awesome The Triplets of Belleville. Pretty boring actually. 4/10

Skyfall – Has its flaws. Too long and several awkward jokes, the worst of which had Bond him straightening his cufflinks near the start. Bad guys was excellent - had the best entrance in Bond history. Nice cold ware elements. Story was ropey in places but still managed to keep me engaged. Overall, I enjoyed the **** out of it. Miles better than QOS. 8.5/10

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance – Avoid like the plague 1/10.

Paranorman - Very enjoyable & surprisingly grown up in places. Only really hampered by ugly character design. Preferred Frankenweenie!

The High Cost of Living
- Zach Braff is a drug dealer (!) involved in a hit & run. Very good performances from the leads & a very melancholy feel to the whole thing. Liked it.

Red Dawn (remake) - Just a ludicrous as the original (which I love), with North Korea as the baddies this time. Some decent action & a few nice explosions, but Thor & Tyra from Friday Night Lights are the only ones to make much of a positive impression as the kids. Josh Peck is an incredibly unlikeable, punchable douchebag. How does he get work? The film's far too short at 93 minutes & ends just as it's starting to get going. I guess they were hoping for sequels? Overall: Not terrible, but could (& should) have been better.

Peter Pan (BD): Excellent; manages to capture both the time of its making and the time of its setting. BD picture good but not noticably better than the DVDs I think.

Argo (cinema): Second time in the cinema for me - just as good the second time around.

The Return of the Jedi (R1): Entertaining, if not up to the standards of the previous two.
