The Walking Dead S3 - U.S. pace, tv spoilers, no comic spoilers.

Ok, S3 is a while away yet but stuff is starting to filter out.

Big spoiler in that link. Look if you dare.

S2 was a bit of a disappointment, especially the middle 5 or 6 eps but the last 2-3 eps rocked. Hopefully the bad eps were due to Frank Darabont leaving and everything being up in the air. But now that everything is settled down hopefully S3 will be less choppy.

Season 2 just dragged on far too much in my opinion. It's typical of some US shows as they just have too many episodes per season compared to the 6 or so we have per series over here. I'd much rather have 6 action packed episodes than 10+ dragged out ones.

Ya, they should have stuck with the 6 ep format of S1. Cable tv is all about the 13 eps though. Thank **** its not on network tv and padded out to 22 eps

Cool. Season 2 was absolute torture and pretty much across the board dreadful but the end of it made it seem like Season 3 would be more er "fun". That spoiler is a good thing!

You raise a good point actually. I think outside of the pilot Season 1 is pretty average, and season 2 just follows that lead. The only reason it seems worse is because it's longer.

So has a show ever successfully re-jigged itself this far in? Surely it's settled into a tone now, and I can't see them drastically changing that.

It's quality. You can well imagine it hangin about with R2-D2. And when the fan is switched on it looks like it's scanning for life-forms like R2-D2 does on the ice world of Hoth when Luke Skywalker goes missing. Quality in moton. The other day it disappeared. I said, "where's the bag-l gone? have the jawas come to pick it up in the sandcrawler?" to which one of the girls in the office replied, "No, Les the porter!" —Captainchode

Torchwood was a huge improvement in S3, from the embarrassment of the first two series.

Torchwood was a big blip - the next season was dreadful.

The Walking Dead will need big budgets to do interesting stuff. With low budgets we'll just get soap opera crap with Zombie Of The Week turning up.

I like the slow stuff, if it was just full on throughout you would just get bored of that too, the quiet bits make the loud bits better.

I think it's a bit sad that adults don't have the attention span these days to watch conversation, I blame comic books.

I think you are confusing people disliking the 'quiet' bits because they are boring with disliking them because they were poorly written trite ****.

The show seems to want to be more of a character piece (for whatever reason: budget restrictions, direction from the comic etc), which is fine. However, the writing/acting/directing isn't strong enough to back it up.

I don't agree that it's poorly written but it's no Deadwood that's for sure, I guess it's just what I expect from this type of show.

I *love* that trailer. Really high hopes for this. Why does October have to be so far away?

really? I'd say the opposite - not enough people reading comic books as the ones I read tend to have a lot of conversation in them...

I was a bit dubious when I read about who David Morrissey was playing but after seeing the trailer I think his character might work... different to the GN but I always thought, visually at least, he was a bit too obviously a
