Saw "The Making of Star Wars" earlier. What a load of rubbish. Looked like they used a VHS source. There was precious little making off stuff too, it was more like an EPK thing. Have to say though, Carrie Fisher was a babe in real life. Seemed to be a bit contradictory with the timeline of the genesis of the sequel. They seem to suggest the sequel was already written but later they say it was written after the first was so popular.

Watched a bit of the spoofs thing, was there really nothing in HD?

Adywan's revisited cut is good - but Harmy's Despecialized versions are brilliant - takes the films back to the theatrical versions as far as possible - in 720p as well.. look amazing..

Started watching these with the children tonight although I guess parts 2 & 3 aren't U rated so we'll have to see what's in those. They both loved TPM and its not as annoying/bad as I remember although the massive use of green screen still gives a very artificial-looking image which just distracts throughout. And the whole trade thing is a nonsense in what's supposed to be a film for kids.

How and where can you get these?

I found The Original Trilogy forum and Harmy's posts but there wasn't an option to download them.

There were some nice YouTube clips though.

Original Trilogy no longer have links to download. You can usually find them on torrent sites or various fan edit forums.

Just finished Jedi, thoughts:

Boba's antenna still switches sides throughout Jabba's palace, never understood why this was never fixed in the '97 edition (let alone the 2004 DVDs and now the blu-rays).

The Ewok CGI eyes are either sporadically placed or hard to see in a lot of shots.

The dreaded "Noooo!" actually works quite well in context of the whole film.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the new effect for Han's defrosting is quite cool

Some of it is HD, the one that immediately comes to mind is Hip Hop Yoda.

Sorry I wasn't too clear there, I meant was there really no HD footage available for the clips that were pillarboxed. I'm pretty sure the HIMYM clip would have aired in HD and probably Robot Chicken and Family Guy. The Weird Al video looks no better than the quicktime movie I saw back in the late 90's. That's something that annoys me about music videos actually, you would think that someone would go back and convert the old videos (which were usually shot on film) into HD. Studios seem reluctent to spend money doing this sort of thing for extras though. I can only recall the bugs bunny shorts on some of the old Warner Blu-rays

I'm not really interested in the version of the film that has the original explosion, or Bens original old shed house.

The 1977 version of Star Wars really looks like an unfinished work in places, even next to the original TESB and ROTJ.

could say that about many films.. things best left as they were at the time IMO

its a different story when final cut was taken away (blade runner)

As much as I love most of the SE changes from a technical point of view, it'll be a rare treat to have a decent looking version of the originals. The first movie actually kicks on a little bit quicker without all that CG Mos Eisley guff and the Jabba scene, so it doesn't have the slightly bloated feel of the SE version. Can't wait to get a look at Star Wars: Despecialized.

I watched A New Hope yesterday. I was pleased with the picture quality personally, I think its sharp and looks very good.

My issues are:

1. Why didn't they correct the colour issues when C3PO and R2-D2 leave the escape pod? The colour still fluctuates and its distracting.

2. Luke's Lightsaber training on the Falcon still looks dodgy with lines going through it as he moves!

3. What's with the stupid rock in front of R2? I mean why would you do that? The audio change doesn't actually bother me but that rock is just pointless and even dissapears later on from the far shot. A movie mistake added in!!!
