Hellraiser coming to Blu Ray!

I haven't seen this mentioned yet. Half way down this page there's news that Anchor Bay are planning to release this modern horror classic.

can't wait for this, but as an old cheaply made film, is it going to be good on Blu? could be a let down, but hope they do a good job

Perhaps it was that Anchor Bay was bought out by Starz Home Entertainment.

Are there any plans to release BD's of the second and third films? Or even a box set?

Yes, I was looking at it on the web the other week. Looks like it is plastic this time.

EDIT: Oh, it was this:

Ah yes I'd seen that. Just the first film on Blu.

I'll probably just pick up the standalone Blu, then the standalone second film on Blu when it comes.

Does anyone own the US Blu Ray? If so, what's it like AV wise?

And what are the chances of the upcoming UK release being the same disc?

I bought the US release yesterday at a fair in The Netherlands, but I haven't watched the film yet. You can find the full specs here: http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparison....php?fid=14375.

Play.com is selling the UK disc for £11 in a two for £22 deal, so I'll wait for that.

Think I'll be doing that too.

I like the look of the screenshots of the US disc, so I hope the UK disc is the same.

I watched the UK release yesterday and the film looks as good as it ever will.

Funny to think now that all these rubbery latex effects were once considered shocking. The film itself is as uneven as ever. Love all the stuff with Clare Higgins' Julia going from reluctant accomplice to ruthless serial killer and I hate Ashley Laurence's insufferable performance as the perky, all American Kirsty who seems to have wandered in from an entirely different film.
Christopher Young's score is still among the best ever for a horror film and lends the film a touch of class that makes up for some of it's obvious budget constraints and compromises.

Any news of a remake ? It's a good story and I'd be interested in someone else having another go at this.

I pretty much echo Todd Tomorrow's thoughts on this transfer. It looks very film-like, with no obvious DNR or other processing evils (unlike some of Anchor Bay's previous titles).

I own the US release, btw, but both transfers should be exactly the same.

Good film, slightly let down by some of the louder action moments, but Barker's S&M infused imagery is still potent in its twisted nastiness.

A considerable upgrade from the dvd, especially if you appreciate how older, grainier films can look in HD.

Wow! Thanks for that - what a bargain. I hope they honour it if it's a misprice.
