I have 2 of the Discgear Studio 100 and they are incredibly practical. You can print out a numbered list so you can find any disc instantly as you can attach the list to the inside of the lid which drops down. The DVD itself cannot be scratched as each storage holder has a soft diaphram and flexible outer cover.
The DVD Amray insert itself is transferred to a separate catalogue (that actually fits the insert) and you can number each page to correspond with the Disc number in the Discgear, giving you instant availability and knowledge of every disc in the box and where it is.

qvcuk.com have them in black (if your lucky), red and white for around £40.

They have some great stuff on there that would be ideal for me. They do ship to the UK but I wouldn't like to think what the customs charges would be!!

I've pretty much decided now to put the covers in A5 clear sleeves in ring-binders and I've just bought one of these from ebay for the disks:

It takes a max of 400 disks in the double-sided pockets but I like the fact that it's stackable rather than all the other case options where you have to be able to open the lid. Once I've seen the one and I know where I can put them I'll get a few more.

AM (a Danish company) and then Virgin used to do these excellent snap lock folders that would take two DVDs, the booklet and the cover per page. By doubling up the sleeves you could fit about 30 per folder and they either came with a box or a zip to keep the dust off. Then stick in a cupboard (where I have 15 of them). Unfortunately I have not seen them around for ages but others may have spotted a source.

Have you got a link to this? It looks pretty cool, and I'd like to check it out myself. Had a look on eBay but couldn't find it.

Edit: Nevermind, I've found it here

There's another guy on ebay selling them who's a little cheaper and you only pay one shipping cost for up to three sets of drawers. Having seen the one I ordered I've now got three more coming. They happened to fit almost exactly into a sideboard we already had in the lounge (pic to follow).

Have you got a link to that listing? I can only find the one I already linked.

Does no-one in this country do decent DVD shelving!!

I e-mailed a couple of US companies about shipping those Prepac DVD shelf towers over to the UK but got no response after 2 attempts. They would be absolutely perfect as well, and much cheaper than stuff over here

Haven't had a chance to measure the drawers yet but I did find a cheaper price for you!

Neo Stackable 400 CD/DVD Draw System £22.27 each, no idea what shipping is though.

If you can imagine the above in plastic, I got something similar from Staples - albeit not so classy. Cheaper tho'. Can't see it on their site, so you may have to pay a visit.

I like the look of this. Having just passed the 1000 DVD titles (heaven knows how many discs that equates to as many of these are multi-disc sets) I'm been finding it impossible to find decent storage solution. While I hate to do away with the cases, I think they protect the disc a lot better than any other method) I think I may have to go down that route - keep the artwork, ditch the case. One quick question, are the sleeves fixed into the drawers ie can you only remove the discs or are the sleeves removable as well meaning you can swap them around easily without handling the discs?
Also is it right that each sleeve holds 2 discs - 1 each side?
Oh, and I would also be interested in the measurements if anyone can oblige.

Here's the dimensions guys....

Width 410mm - Depth 385mm - Height 198mm

These are the maximum dimensions of the corners. These are rivited into place so there might be an extra mm depending how neatly these have been done. I haven't counted the handles in the depth.

The drawers take the standard double-sided disk holders that all the DJ cases seem to use. They're like little hanging files on rails and each one is numbered and can be removed. I have also been able to purchase more of these at the local Tesco Extra when needed. The first unit I received had black sleeves but I haven't opened the other three yet that arrived today.

I've gone for A4 folders and clear sleeves for the covers in the end as I found A5 ones 10 times more expensive. I found some nice four-ring binders in Tesco tonight and bought 1000 A4 clear sleeves off ebay today for less than £18 inc. post!

I will mourne the loss of my display of DVDs in their cases but for more practical storage of as many as 1,600 disks I'm quite pleased with this:

I would like you all to also note that the cupboard can take another 8 of those drawers which wll give me a final capacity of 4,800 disks!

That looks great. I have another question which I meant to ask the other day, what's the support like when you pull the drawers out, especially for those stacked on top?

Many thanks for that. That looks very nice. I think this has convinced me to order a couple to start with. Now all I have to decide is whether to use both for DVDs or use 1 to reduce the size of my CD collection. Decisions, decisions...

I haven't started putting disks in yet but they seem very sturdy. The runners for the drawers are like ones in filing cabinets, they extend as the drawer opens to provide extra support.
