Which Region A are must buys?

Going to the States in the New Year, hoping to pick up some blu rays that are

a) not available here or
b) more special features or
c) better transfer / uncut etc

Any suggestions?

TIA

Long time no see

Anything criterion. Expensive but really worth it.

I wouldn't say anything Criterion, there's a few releases by them with better releases here in the UK transfer-wise (12 Angry Men and Hara-kiri immediately spring to mind). The Samurai Trilogy and the Zatoichi Boxset are must-buys if you like that sort of thing though!

Off the top of my head I can think of a handful of titles:

Red Cliff - Uncut in US, cut in the UK
Dawn of the Dead (original) - best transfer of a bad bunch
Dances with Wolves - Extra cut of the film
Manhunter - Glorious transfer in the US, DNR'd in the UK
The Crow - Better transfer
The Princess Bride - Again DNR'd in the UK

Also titles not released over here yet:

The Natural
The Quiet Man (fantastic transfer on the US Blu-ray)

You might want to check out this Blu-ray.com thread as well.

Yeah sorry I would have clarified but I completely forgot about the *******ised "hollywood" version! The UK 2-film 4hr "International Version" (ie: the original cut) has been cut by about 24s for horsefalls. Not a big deal in terms of time, but it does affect the editing of some pretty sweet battle sequences!

The films are uncut on Blu-ray in HK but there's a Mei Ah watermark periodically stamped on the transfer to part 1 (i think it's part one). The US release is cheap, uncut, & features good transfers with no watermarks.
