Its not the competition per say, but the format and the teams - no glamour ties, perhaps until you get to the knock out stages. It doesn't help that CL rejects fall into the competition either, as clearly none of them want to be in it.

It's the silly league system that tries to rinse every penny out of what should be a straight knock out. It needs fewer teams in it, and I'd have the final in January.

I had to laugh at Zlatan's quote last night - "I'm not used to playing on Thursdays".

Maybe it should work both ways and the best teams advance to the CL?

Well the winner gets a place in the CL the following year.

Does anyone apart from Seville actually want to be in it?

I suppose from some mid-level team it could work quite well if they took it seriously and won it. Finish OK in your own league, get into the CL the previous year, get knocked out and into the Europa and win it, repeat.

Probably easier than breaking into the Top 4 domestically or winning the CL to get in it again

Yes, he's usually up the Pig & Whistle playing Domino's.

It could be a great competition if the Champions League behaved itself.

Top two in every country, CL. The next three teams, EL.

This tournament is a thinly disguised attempt to subsidise pointless teams who have qualified because of a silly political boundary, rather than because of ability.

Teams like Celtic and Hibernian.

Mata is the difference for us. He's so much more useful with the ball than Rooney.

BT sport. Great coverage but the so called commentators, are the worst I have known in all the time I've been watching football.

Just to add, even though I'm talking to myself on here today, that Rooney would have buried some of the chances that Ibra has fluffed today. So he has a role, but it's not Matas.

...don't agree, Ibra does at least hit the shots on target and their keeper has pulled off some good saves today... ...Rooney seems pretty shot shy these days!,

Oh FFS, clownery gets them level but nobody worry, Memphis is on!

Lose or draw this, & any realistic chance of winning the Prem is almost certainly over.

Memphis is about as good as I was. He must laugh to himself every night. How is he getting away with it?

Good day, we gained a point on City, only 5 points behind, we're going to win the league.

So, thoughts for tonight?

It's set up to and being built up as being a foregone conclusion that Liverpool will beat us but if ever there was a game to kick-start our season it would be this one.

I think we might edge it with an early goal and an hour of backs against the wall. They lose heart when teams defend deep.

I hope you are right. I always go into this match thinking we will lose.
