Indeed. We are as much a part of the problem as anyone else. Except we can afford it. For now.

If what is being reported is true, then I'm really pleased that City have dealt with it in the way that they have. Don't get me wrong, Sanchez is a great player and I would have happily seen him sign for us. I think that he'll do very well for United.

However, Pep is building a team with players that complement each other - if we'd have bought Sanchez and put him on 400K or 500K a week, what would that do for the morale of players like De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero who have given so much?

Plus, I'd rather us get unpolished diamonds and see how they turn out - players like Sane, Jesus, Ederson and Bernado Silva who are by no means cheap (although they are suddenly looking that way), on reasonable wages (in terms of the top players).

Not sure how anybody can blame City and Chelsea - United are doing exactly what we did a few years ago - we were a long way off the quality of the leaders so we went out and paid big money and wages to catch up.

I think the difference is United earned it through prolonged footballing success, big crowds and commercial revenues etc, rather than a Russian mobster buying a European profile for protection or an oil Gazillionaire having some fun.

Spending goes in cycles. Let’s remember City have spent more than Utd in 9 out of the last 10 years.

Sanchez should be a superstar at Utd, and is exactly the player we need. At City they have Aguero, Jesus, De Bruyne. No doubt he would have done well there, but he would t be the main man.

I couldn’t care less about the figures, we are playing catch up with City, and need a superstar, and we look to have got one - and got rid of a player who has been poor since day 1, just turned 29 and whom we would be lucky to flog for £10m at the end of the season due to his wages and abysmal performances, cracking deal for Utd.

Maybe you should have got your chequebook out. Seems like the kind of player Liverpool used to be linked to, back in the day.

Wages yes, price no.
Probably cost similar to VVD over the length of the contract.

As expected, the wages are closer to rest of the players than reported previously.

Don't believe the hype.

So who misses out now? I've read so much about Sanchez going on the right side (like Barca & Udinese) so Mata misses out. But would Martial & Lingard also be at risk?

(I'm purely asking for Fantasy Premier League reasons! ).

Are they not?

I've read it on more than one site, it's the red tops and other tabloids screaming that he's getting £500k+

I would hardly call the Press Association a red top / tabloid.

I haven't seen one mention of his salary without the prefix "reportedly", so nobody knows the real number.

We will find out the true figure when the accounts are all published.

From a Utd fans perspective, it doesn’t matter, he will be an improvement and give the boss more options.

Mata is most at risk, he’s already shoehorned into right midfield, and I expect his time to be more limited now.

Furthermore, it gives us options up front to rest Lukaku, so I’m not sure we will see much of Zlatan again. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him off to the MLS before the end of the season, can’t see him getting much game time now.

Along with De Bruyne, Kane and Hazard he’s one of four player’s that would walk into every team in the PL, only the big clubs are capable of getting such players :-)

So why was no one else, other than City, in for him?

No doubting he is a very good player but is not half a million a week good.

We don’t know what he’s on, The Independent reports it’s £300k. All footballers wages are outrageous these days, he’s one of the best players in the world who was nearly out of contract, so he’s going to be on a fortune. But Utd got him in the cheap, if he had two years on his contract, and Arsenal were willing to sell then he’s an £80-100m player in this market.

No one knows if other teams were interested or not? Chelsea were rumoured, and if he stayed in the PL, he wouldn’t go anywhere other than Utd, City or Chelsea - otherwise it’s a sideways step or a step down.

Most clubs, even if they had an interest in him would have been put off by City, as it looked like a done deal, which is why I’m amazed that he’s at Utd, I didn’t see it as even a remote possibility.
