Klopp's net spend is around £108m compared to £238m and £282m for Jose and Pep respectively.

It's obvious who, if anybody, is spending money that they don't have!

Still sore apparently

Not a bad Christmas period at all for us with some excellent results for our rivals particular over the last two days. Even if we lose next weekend we can't be any worse than joint 4th having played both City and Arsenal twice ... not too bad.

I can only presume the ref wanted to let that one go to review. Regardless of Firmino reaction, Hollgate should get punished for pushing him into the stands.

So week in and out these pundits are saying a player is entitled to go down because there was contact, and Sky spend hours a week analysing slow motion to try to see what contact there is, and now all of a sudden they've remembered that football is actually a contact sport.

It was a soft penalty but the pundits favourite take is always. “Don’t give the ref a reason to blow the whistle”.

Hollgate hooked lalana and he went down. Softer penalties have been given, more concrete ones have not.

Sweet irony after this from Big Sam after the league derby:

Quote:
“Don't put your hands on a forward when he's in the box, don't mess with him, don't touch him, don't push him.

“If you do you run the risk of giving a penalty away, he had no need to do it, he could've stood up, shepherded him away from goal which is where he was going and he didn't he put his hands on him, pushed him over and people can call it soft but you don't do those sort of things in the box today, as we know

The real irony is that Klopp said neither were penalties, where as Allardyce just said the one last night wasn't

Shearer also said last night's wasn't having said, after the game, that the one in the league game was a clear penalty.

The rules should be exactly the same in the box as they are on the rest of the pitch - and the fact is that once you step over that line the current interpretation is that the game becomes non-contact.

Which rule is that? Specifically the rule that states the definition of a foul changes depending on where it was committed on the pitch?

The rules should be applied in exactly the same way from game to game; regardless of which to teams are playing and in which competition and of who the ref is.

What is annoying is (a) the hypocrisy of pundits/media/managers who are happy to use 'if you have your hands up you are asking for trouble' line one week and then the 'football is a contact sport' line the next and (b) total inconsistency between all the refs and their inability to apply even the basic rules of the game.

At least Klopp pointed out he didn't think either incident was a penalty ( but then went on to say that he was the reasons why the first one was and the sames reasons applied last night ). Fat Sam just comes straight out and categorically says last night's wasn't ( but saw nothing wrong with the one in the league game )

Crazy that we are selling now but a pretty much guaranteed £140M+ is a massive amount of money for someone who, I'd argue, is not our best player [ or rather it is very close between him, Firmino and (already) Salah ] and plays in an area where we have several options already.

Then again - I trust Klopp with transfers a damn site more than Rodgers but getting a non-CL cup tied player (in the next 3 weeks) of Phil's quality might be tricky. Fekir's [ of Lyon ] name has been mentioned a lot recently. Can't remember ... does playing in the Europa League stop you playing in the CL for someone else ?

We will never get anywhere while we continue to be a seller club.We never keep hold of anyone of genuine world class ability, bar Gerrard and that sailed close to the wind.ridiculous decision to sell now and there's no positive way of dressing this up.Phil gets a cheap La Liga medal,we lose a top player at a crucial period of the season.still VVD and Keita are now paid for
