highly recommended windows 10 tool to shut off all the spyware crap from one easy place. It's a free single exe as well, so no bloat or anything, plus you can save the config for further installs to run after a large update when they no doubt reset a lot of things. Saves having to hunt through menus and do reg tweaks etc.

I've mentioned it earlier in the thread but you really need to use WPD as well as SU10

Is there any way to configure the mail app in windows 10 so it replaces the message list pane with the reading pane when you click an email instead of having the two panes open side by side (like the webmail version does). I find it a real pain to work with so I normally just log into outlook.com instead of using the mail app (with the horrible "group by conversation" option turned off)

For some stupid reason (a recent windows update?), when I now start searching after hitting the windows start button, I'm not seeing any system-related results - I usually use this to jump to (for example) SYSTEM RESTORE or BLUETOOTH. Same even within the Windows Settings (cog).

Is this happening for anyone else ?

Meanwhile, this is handy for me, who can never remember the BT icon in the notification area (Win-A):

Been updating a new laptop, and I noticed the windows update to 1903 had failed a week ago - weird that it didn't tell me, or try installing itself again, and even weirder today when I see this message (in control panel/updates) about 1803 !

You're currently running a version of Windows that's nearing the end of support. We recommend you update to the most recent version of Windows 10 now to get the latest features and security improvements.
Released in April 2018 - didn't last very long!

What do people think of Windows 10 on tablets? We picked up a cheap Linx tablet to push race results to a screen, so didn't need anything high powered - its ideal for that purpose and even comes with a snap-on keyboard.

Keyboard-on is fine... In tablet mode though, its a fiddly mess of a thing. Do the MS Surface tablets have a different UI when in tablet mode? I wasn't sure if that's something companies can do if they have the time & money, or if Windows 10 really is just a one size fits all?

I've had a Linx tablet for years and for occasional use it's great. We always use it when we travel as it's great for casting or plugging into hotel room TVs etc.

Have to admit that I rarely detach the keyboard though, it does work well enough but it's clearly too fiddly for most tasks. If anything the keyboard just works as a nice stand for when you're watching something on a plane.

no, it's just the same tablet mode as all other windows 10 devices - basically full screen start menu.

Surfaces are ok, but they aren't the most reliable things in the world, plus the keyboard doesn't really turn it in to a laptop as you can't really balance the thing on your lap like a proper laptop, so it's more of a tablet with a flimsy keyboard cover really.

The Linx is really good for exactly the reason we bought it although the trackpad gestures are utterly dreadful and I can't seem to find a way to disable it.

What surprised me (not in a good way) was how Windows 10 as a tablet is just the normal UI. Talk about a fiddly mess!

Indeed, I feel sorry for Microsoft.
They did try and do the right thing and make a "Version" of windows just for tablets, which it what we should have.
But then the whole world moaned at them for a cut down windows, so they went back to a full version, now people are moaning again!

Apple probably did it right, iOS on Tablets and stick with it.

As always the problem is apps. You needed everyone to make great software for the tablet only windows, and than never happened.

No way for them to win really.

M$ could never release a tablet OS and name it Windows as people would immediately expect to run basically any win32 app on it.

What they should've done, like Apple is have an iOS equivalent OS that was tablet/phone only and Windows as the Desktop/Laptop OS.

Their mistake was trying to make Windows 10 the base for everything. The phone side has failed and the tablet part is essentially a non-starter as any Windows tablet runs full fat Windows (apart from the odd exception of Windows S).

I'm sure its not easy, but using Windows on a tablet has reaffirmed my view that just making an OS touch-enabled isn't the nirvana of computing that many seem to wish for.

Everything in the Windows OS has been geared around a mouse though. Click here to enter text. Click that bit to increase a value, or click that to drop down a selection. Multi select the dingdongs you want to bingbong. It's hard to do that without a UI redesign.

Well I knew my good luck with Windows 10 would eventually run out, popped out earlier tonight to watch a film and when I get back my PC is now almost unusuable because the windows start menu won't open and right clicking on anything on my taskbar does nothing. I don't know what has caused this as I don't think my computer has done anything automatically.

Anyone had this problem recently? I did do a big update about a week ago I think.

Ran a powershell system scan, found corrupt files but unable to fix them. ******* windows man, bleedin' ballache!

Repaired the corrupt files, my computer is still ballsed. I know already that any guide online is going to be useless to me because they are always ******* useless to me.

EDIT: Checked System Restore, apparently there was a Critical Update around 1.25am. That's obviously what has broken windows. Guys beware of this, could be a new problem.

System Restore did nothing... absolutely nothing. You know you'd think by now that I would stop getting my hopes up using this... it NEVER works!

EDIT: Just for reference and a warning, I believe it is update KB4520405 that has broken my PC.

Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone ran into this before and had to wait for Windows to release an update fix/patch and have any idea how long a wait I could be in for?

If you have an nvidia display adapter, make sure you use Nvidia's drviers and not the ones supplied via Windows. The Windows ones cause all our PC's at work to be incapable of opening Metro apps (inc the start menu)

Have you tried use something other than Microsofts start menu? https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-S...s/tag/v4.4.142 is free

Make sure you download the GCN drivers from Nvidia.

Windows update now 'favours' the GCN drivers (Microsoft DCH (Declarative Componentized Hardware supported apps). e.g If you have a 441.20 Nvidia 'standard' driver installed. Windows update will ignore this, 'update' and give you 430.** or whatever the latest Microsoft have. But if you download the 'DCH' driver from Nvidia, Windows update won't do this. I had Geforce Experience and Windows update battling back and forth until I removed everything and did a clean install of the DCH drivers.
