Micro Four Thirds Lenses

Hi,

Bit of a noob question hopefully!

I know you can use non micro four thirds lenses on micro four thirds camera with a suitable adapter (certain compatible ones anyway).

Was hoping if anyone knew if all micro four thirds lenses are compatible with any micro four thirds cameras?

i.e. Can I use an olympus 4/3rds lense on my panasonic 4/3rds camera?

Thanks

Yes, Micro 4/3 is the mount type, they can all be used on all micro 4/3 cameras.

Thanks for that!

I had read a few conflicting articles about the compatibility of different four thirds bodies and lenses so wasn't sure myself!

What you've got to remember is that 4/3 is different to micro 4/3, you wont be able to attach a 4/3 lens to a micro 4/3 camera without an adapter.

Micro 4/3rds was developed by Olympus and Panasonic together so any lens made by either company will work on each other's camera bodies and be completely automatic.

Other lens converters may not pass through autofocus or apperture changes to the lens. But 4/3rds to micro 4/3rds is fine.

Just to be clear, there are some Four Thirds lenses that will NOT autofocus on certain Panasonic Micro Four Thirds bodies via the adapter (specifically the G1, GF1 and GH1 bodies). A lens has to be enabled for Contract-Detect Autofocus (CDAF) to fully work on those three bodies.

All Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds lenses will fully work on all other Micro Four Thirds bodies.

Yes there is quite a big difference between 4/3rds and MICRO 4/3rds lenses and cameras.

4/3rds was developed by Olympus and Kodak (not Panasonic)

while Micro 4/3rds is a joint venture between Olympus and Panasonic.
