No. 99.9% of people who don't really know star wars wouldn't have a clue what bits are new and what aren't. If a couple of seconds of CGI stopped you watching the whole movie, then you were never that interested in the first place.

The new shots during the final Death Star space battle are a fantastic improvement. I generally prefer the SE overall.

I also liked the way it opened out Cloud City from one building to at least an area. But I don't think it improved ROTJ I would have liked to see some B wings in action, they were left out of the original because the models were too hard to see and only appeard at the start of the battle.

I also like the swapping of The Emperor in TESB it does bring the series together a bit better.

The final space battle at the end of ROTJ still stands up as one of the most incredible FX sequences ever put to film, and I wouldn't alter a single thing about it. The moment when (what looks like) 300 TIE Fighters swarm past the Falcon's cockpit is jaw dropping.

Yeah, the final battle in Jedi is amazing. Shame that the demise of the Executor is so utterly lame though.

Yes, worst effect in the whole OT in my opinion. Never understood why they never fixed it even when they were originally making the film!

Is that the big ship that crashes into the death star with that crappy explosion?

There was a couple of gaffes in that battle originally, sposedly a sneaker was put in by the effects crew. I could never find it. But the other one wasnt deliberate and its been corrected, you could see right thru a few spaceships.

There are plenty of mistakes if you know about them, a side effect of the technology available at the time.

Having said that, I still find it 100x more exciting to watch than the borefest that is the opening space battle in Sith.

I keep hearing that LFL pulled the plug on the SE restoration before they got to the Jedi space battle, and it shows. SUCH a shame that they've never bothered to revisit it (one or two shots aside) as the remaining transparencies and garbage mattes are so glaringly obvious on Blu-ray it kinda spoils the the amazing camera work. And I always thought that they might put in the storyboarded shot of a stray rebel ship crashing into the Death Star's energy shield ("All craft pull up!") but it wasn't to be.

I love the Sith space battle, that opening shot leaves my mouth hanging open in awe every time.

Ha ha, what a shining wit you are. I love that bit because it's a stunning shot that could never ever EVER have been done in the motion control era.

It's technically impressive obviously, but personally I just find it void of any emotion. I still get goosebumps watching that shot in ROTJ where they turn away from the Death Star to be confronted with almost the entire imperial fleet.

The opening shot of Sith is just loads of big ships that you don't really know who is who and then loads of crappy dialogue.

I know who is who in the Sith space battle, and I've got plenty of emotional investment in it (although not as much as the Jedi battle, seeing as that's the end of the whole saga). Not hating the prequels kinda helps.

I'm not a prequel hater, but it is much easier to resonate with the Rebel pilots than the clones.

Easier yes, but not impossible. The only pilots who had any character (outside of those in the Falcon's cockpit) were the guys in Star Wars and Empire, the ones in Jedi are entirely disposable. Much like the clones...

does anyone know the height of R2D2? Was watching Empire Strikes Back and cannot possibly believe someone was actually inside the R2 machine operating it. On screen it looks tiny. you would have to be inches tall to get inside that?
