I know for certain there is one small change. During Chewbaccas search for C3-PO bits in the scrap yard / furnace of Cloud City, some set background pieces were blue. These have been changed to orange with sparks. I guess this was to make it more obvious its a furnace for melting scrap metal.

Yes, originally released in stereo. Then Lucas started tweaking when creating the mono mix that was released about a month later.

Never really bothered me, that. There's a similar change when Han is dangling off the barge in RotJ, "Trust me" has been changed to "I can see a lot better".

Not sure why he bothered, but it's not a loss (unlike that "Alert my blah blah blah", which sounds nothing like JEJ).

Watched Star Wars last night. Most of the Special Edition scenes stick out like a sore thumb. The CGI monsters look very out of place in Mos Esiley.

Greedo shooting first has been made somewhat better, but its still messy and now is unclear who shot first. Bit its still by far the worst thing Lucas has ever changed.

C3PO annoys me now.

Does the light bouncing off of 3P0 in ANH not annoy anyone else but me?

That's my main problem with it too - all the 'extra' bits are just sooooo obvious, they really take you out of the movie. You just sit there going 'oh, that is a new bit...'

I got my set last night and was disappointed to find that the trailers and music videos were not included in this. I was really looking forward to seeing the prequel trailers as that is easily the best thing about new films.

To be honest Brad, it has already been discussed to death in this thread. I'd suggest checking out Geoff's TDF review because he sums it up quite nicely.

Yeah, I think everyone's had enough of Star Wars for now.

Watched these recently, is it just me or have the prequels not aged well?

They were always bloody awful but my god they are truly terrible films, really poor!

Blu Rays just meh as well, my Episode 3 has some dodge picture grain in one seen with Anakin and his bird, cannot remember which of the stunning scenes they share it was.

Is it true that when Star Wars originally came out it was just called...

Star Wars: A New Hope

Lucas added the chapters later so he could milk doing a prequel trilogy (badly)?

It was just called Star Wars, 'A New Hope' was the heading in the opening crawl.

Lucas has always said that the original Star Wars draft was far too long to be made into one movie so he 'split it into three' but it's rubbish.

I watched the prequels this weekend for the first time since the cinema. They're not as bad as my mind had projected them to be in my memories :P

Trouble is, you're always finding yourself comparing them to the originals, which'll always be a cut above. But if you imagine it as a separate series of films, they'd be a pretty good watch.

I tried that, they are still terrible terrible films.

All the acting is terrible apart from R2.

All the action is boring apart from Darth Maul ending.

Awful, i remembered enjoying them more!

It wasn't even called A New Hope.
The original release was just "Star Wars"
the title flew away from the screen and then the opening began with "Fleeing from the empire... blah blah"

I'm sure the original opening is on one of the DVDs as an extra.

It is briefly featured in the Empire of Dreams documentary on the DVDs.

The non-"A New Hope" version of Star Wars was included on the maligned 2006 DVDs as well.

I seem to remember the "A New Hope" Line above the crawl being added to the 1978 re-issue.
