Just finished reading ADWD - unimpressed

I just find myself massively uninterested now - I didn't even mind A Feast For Crows that much - and I can't say that I'm that fussed for the next book coming out now

Interesting, I found ADwD very gripping for the most part, and left me desperate for the next book. For my next readthrough I'd be very interested in combining Feast and Dance into one big book, people geekier than I have sorted the chapters into chronological order.

I recently finished ADWD and loved it. I am gutted at how about 7 our of 12 storylines seem to have ended in cliffhangers but there's literally so much going on now I cannot wait for Book 6.

My jaw hit the floor in a way that hasn't happened since

All other deaths were pretty explicit. As I said earlier my impression is he'll live.

I foresee him being saved by Melisandre. The Red Wizard healed Victarion Greyjoy's hand in ADWD... Melisandre must have similar skills. surely shirley...

but i don't think he will continue as commander of the night's watch long: too much emphasis on him being the 998th lord commander. that leaves 1 or 2 more commanders to go before something happens (wall brought down?) on the 1000th commander or 999th commander (thou shall not reach 1000 commanders). Or perhaps that it is another GRRM red herring.

I hadn't thought about the numbering, actually. Nice.

Do we actually need spoilers here? Surely no one would come into this thread without having read the book, now?

And whatever happens I think you're right and he isn't going to be commander.

Is that the second one? I'm sure he had at least one other up there before.

I'm not reading it 'til the book's out, though.

A very good guide to combining Feast and Dance into one mega-book here.

I think it would make for a much more satisfying read.

Re: A Dance With Dragons (A Song of Ice & Fire book 5)

I'm finding this very hard going. I love all the previous ones, but there just seems to be so much going on in so many locations that it's difficult to keep up. His over-elaborate, detailed style doesn't help either. I'm not quite 25% in yet, so I'm sure it'll draw me in tomorrow.

do you have the 2-book version? i found the first book of Dance of Dragons exactly the same, but found the 2nd far more lively and fast paced.

it is odd how favourite chapter PoVs change. in all previous books, Tyrion's were my favourite. In this book - I found his very dull. Jon's became my favourite.

Nope, reading the complete version. 40% now and it's getting somewhere... We've had a small battle at least!
