What an achievement.
Congrats to them both for not just an amazing score but a brilliant album in its own right.

It is great to see him develop and mature into such a great artist and composer.
Can't wait for his Dragon Tatoo score- that will be the real test : was this just a one off?

Listen to some of the Nine Inch Nails instrumentals.
I'd say no, not a one-off

Any word/rumours yet with respect to their Dragon Tattoo soundtrack? ... More of the same but with a Swedish flavour perhaps?

Trent Reznor Is Scoring – And Acting In – A Vampire Movie
Quote:
Reznor will be providing the score to the film adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – and he’ll be appearing as the vampire who kills Lincoln’s mom, as well.
The movie is based on the literature-killing mash-up novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, which tells the secret history of Abraham Lincoln’s life-long struggle against vampires. It’s the sort of lazy and dumb idea that sells millions in today’s post-literate landscape. Timur Bekmambetov is directing the movie.

From here.
Well, he's got an Oscar for a serious score. Now how's about a bit of fun.

Been re-listening to some of Ghosts I-IV since the first time that I've seen The Social Network and I can't believe how much of that soundtrack was literally lifted off of that collection. I'd just put it down to sounding similar when I first saw the film, but having seen it twice now and re-listening to the album it is clear some of the exact same material has been recycled.
You can't help but question the legitimacy of the Oscar as not all the music was originally written for the film.

That's what I thought, that it was a bit cheeky when you've got something as sumptuous as Daft Punk/Tron Legacy which doesn't even get nominated (and which seems like an obvious snub to me, for some reason). Then again, I love stuff like Peter Gabriel's score for Birdy, and that cribs from tonnes of his work.
I love NIN/Reznor, but I don't think the score for The Social Network should've even been nominated, let alone won.

I absolutely love the score (no question) and thought it worked remarkably well for the film, but I'm disappointed that someone as obviously creative as Trent would recycle so much material.
Maybe they should've given Trent the Oscar for Man on Fire while they were at it.
[EDIT: Just in case anyone felt like checking, the two tracks I've come across that appear in TSN are 14 Ghosts II (appears in the Timberlake dinner scene -the "Seanathon") and 35 Ghosts IV (appears in the Facemash.com scene near the beginning). Not sure if any other tracks are re-used as these are just two that have randomly popped up in a NIN shuffle I've been listening to the last couple of days.
Still haven't bought the OST and a bit put-off buying it knowing that I probably already own a chunk of it!]

Or The Fan, which manages to use not less than THREE (I think, I lost count) remixes of Closer. Christ, could Tony Scott get ANY more value out of his NIN buck?

I could be way off here, but didn't Fincher bring Trent in because he initially used some cues from Ghosts as temp backing tracks in order to demonstrate the musical direction he was aiming for?

You're absolutely right, Robby (I forgot about that). When I read about that though, they didn't really imply they'd left it in the film.

Haven't seen The Fan (might have to now ).
I still haven't seen Lost Highway either, despite owning the OST for it for ages (purchased only because of NIN's involvement).

Came on here to post about this album - there is a 4 track sampler on the website you can get for free - absoloutly fantastic. Kind of hard to describe - NIN without the angst and heaviness maybe?
