I think it's weird how many players we should ideally get rid of considering that we are 5th and had a good go in the champions league. We have a huge squad but only 6 or 7 players who you would argue we must keep. (Dawson, Bale, Lennon, VDV, Modric, Defoe-I know some would argue with the latter after this year). Then a few more like BAE, Gomes, Gallas and Hudd who are more debatable but not worth purposefully trying to dispose

We have 5 right backs (if you include Kaboul which I would) and though I've not seen much of the Kyles, none are good enough for a top 4 challenging side. We have 2 of the most mediocre forwards in the league (Pav & Crouch) who I doubt anyone other than the bottom 5 or 6 would be interested in.

I still like and rate Gomes, replacing him wouldn't be a priority. Like Arsenal, we have needed players in the same few positions for ages but Harry has preferred to sign unneeded players like Pienaar or whoever happens to be cheap and availabe -this includes VDV who whilst a great player wasn't actually what we needed at the time.

We still need IMO
-at least one centre back (and to forget about King and Woodgate)
-a tough defensive midfielder (Sandro and Hudd are ok but not all rounders, Jenas and Palacios are hopeless)
-a striker (admittedly a hard position but we could have presumably got Suarez)

These are the priorities, we can then start thinking about whether we need to replace people like Bentley and Jenas.

Bottom line is we have so many surplus players now that you can rightly see the chairman not spending until we shift a few and that will cause problems in the summer as you want your squad assembled as early as possible.

Didn't Harry have a deal at Pompey that meant he got a share of profits from player sales? Which would encourage you to buy players either out of contract or near the end of their contracts (so cheap, like Pienaar) in order to flog them on once they're on a longer contract and therefore worth more. Any idea if he has the same sort of clause in his Spurs contract?

When you say he got a share of the profits, do you mean personally or he got a share to spend on new players? I very much doubt any club would give a manager a share of a players sale! OTOH it makes sense to buy players and flog them for a profit and spend that on players you really want, that's just common sense.

He's had some good buys, Sandro, Kaboul and Palacios. VDV was a Levy gift. He's also bought Crouch and Defoe who frankly we could have done without. He bought back Keane (good) but wrecked his morale (bad). It's shocking that so many Spurs fans aren't asking WTF went wrong with the Keane situation, he's the most gifted striker we have and most fans seem happy to overlook it. It's amazing that given the lack of goals Crouch and Defoe have scored that people aren't asking why our best striker in the last 10 years is constantly undermined and then shipped out on loan

Keane ****** his career up the wall with that trip to Dublin. It's a shame but it's of his own making

Keane's usefulness departed with Berbatov. They were a potent combination on the same wavelength. Between Defoe's monotonous early taken shots which are always so, so close, and crouch's awkward movement and ability to knock balls down to opposition feet we should be looking for a goal predator. I only hope whoever comes in gets a decent run of games to settle and prove themselves.

A natural leader at the back (not necessarily the most technically gifted) would be a useful. At least we have options in midfield, and it wouldn't surprise me if 'arry stuck with Gomes.

Yes really Yes you've found one example but it's not something you'd expect. Good luck to Holloway if his chairman agreed to that

i'm sure harry was on 10% of the profit made from selling on players which may also explain why he brought alot of his own players from pompey since he could control the buying price

Anyway....

Revenge on Blackpool tomorrow? Bloody better be. Does rather help out our friends at Upton Park though (tbh, I'd like to see them stay up...).

No Hudd or BAE by the looks of things so assume Corluka at LB again.

Notice Pletikosa describing his move to Spurs as 'a mistake'. Do feel sorry for him if he was told there'd be genuine competition for #1 spot when clearly Gomes is the first choice. Given Pletikosa is Croatian number one (think >85 caps?), he should be playing first team somewhere.

At this point in the season, don't see why we don't just give him a go, after Gomes' 'error' at Chelsea.

Starting line-up for the Blackpool game: Gomes; Kaboul, Dawson, Gallas, Bale, Rose, Van Der Vaart, Sandro, Modric, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko. 1st appearance of the season for Danny Rose.

Interesting result from Goodison Park, if we can take three points today and turn City over in midweek, we'll only be one point off fourth spot.

Today is also the 50th anniversary of the double winning Spurs side of 1961.

Spurs performing "above expectation" according to Harry. An interesting perspective.

Harry got a Ł300,000 bonus when West Ham sold Rio to Leeds.

VdV cannot and will not play on the right. It's been obvious to everyone except Harry for months. Either drop Pav and play him through the middle with Lennon on the right or drop VdV. We've been mostly unable to hit the net since we signed him

Don't discount Liverpool, you have to play them yet, they also could mathematically be in the fourth spot.

Strikers ineffective again so far. The shape is not there especially playing Vdv on the right.

Danny Rose has played well, other than that a toothless performance so far.
