Social Network is still my favourite soundtrack he's done - as has been mentioned, it works as a "proper" album I can just stick on and listen to. Also agree the Zep cover which opens the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack is stunning.

I do need to revisit the rest of the soundtracks as there's an awful lot of music to get through and some of it on first listens was definitely more ambient "background" music.

I think re-visiting them after knowing the films better will give the soundtracks context too. I bought both GG and TGwtDT soundtracks before seeing the films (I missed both at the cinema, as I happened to be reading the book of each when they were released -I ended up reading whilst listening to the soundtracks!).

Bought the Blu-Ray of Social Network and used it when auditioning loudspeakers. It's really good on [loud] high-end kit.

The track they have released is pretty poor. I think my love for this band has finally died. I'll listen to the old stuff but that's it for anything new.

Disagree, I love it. In fact I find myself generally liking them more with each new release. Nice to hear Trent actually singing now as opposed to on NTAE. Much more radio-friendly, too. And lovely vocal harmonies, it's catchy as hell!

Problem is they haven't really released anything memorable since With Teeth, and even then that wasn't anywhere near as good as the Fragile or the Downward Spiral.

New track is excellent. Very catchy & glad they can still produce radio-friendly material. Understandable though that the NiN purists won't like it for being annoyingly "pop" friendly...

I really like the new song and I don't have a problem with them doing more "poppy" (relatively speaking) stuff - its a nice counter-point/sound to some of their more challenging things.

To be honest, its the same with any band which has been around for more than a few albums - they'll never continue to please all of their fans all of the time.

NIN have done radio friendly pop ever since the start with Pretty Hate Machine, so it's nothing new. Trent's always had an ear for a catchy melody.

Another new song, Friday can't come quickly enough. I'm getting a Radiohead vibe.

Looks like this is all tying in to Year Zero, too.

I think I'm done with "modern" music.

I just don't find the majority of new music anything worth listening to and just find myself always going back to older stuff.

The 11-minute track on the new EP does my head in. The (deliberately) badly-looped five-second sample is not easy on the ears, even if it is quite an interesting experiment.

Rest of the EP is fine, but I don't love it nearly as much as the one that was released at Christmas.

Yeah, that final track starts so well & they had to ruin it with that stupid loop.

Apart from that, I'd say it's on par with the first E.P. which was good...

Another weird thing is my iPhone has that final track listed first. Especially weird as I bought the EP on iTunes.

EDIT: Sorted it. Originally deleted it from the phone and re-downloaded it, that didn't work. I eventually noticed that track 5 had "disc [blank] of 1" in the properties, I put a '1' in the blank, deleted from the phone and re-synced, and now it's correct.

Having recently gotten into vinyl (finally) I went to the UK store to order The Fragile Deviations and it was sold out. US store is still listing it though and the postage is only $14. It actually still works out cheaper than the UK store.

UK store is also showing sold out for pre-orders of the new vinyl editions of The Downward Spiral and The Fragile. Both are still listed on the US store.

The Background World certainly is a divisive one with that ending, but I'm finding it strangely addictive. In Trent's own words, the song "destroys itself" which is more a less a running theme with these EPs (a copy of a copy of a copy indeed). And I don't think it's any accident that the lyrics before it all happens are, "are you sure this is what you want?"

I love this new EP and sorry, but I think The Background World is amazing and I'm with LHG, there's something really addictive about the ending and how it "destroys itself". Its great to have NiN back, I think Trent is really hitting his stride with these EPs and they're a nice counter-sound to his soundtrack work too.

I like The Background World more now since listening to the EP several times over, but it only really works in the context of listening to the whole thing. I won't be adding it to any playlists anytime soon.
